Gameplay questions / Re: Problems with rituals
« on: April 11, 2020, 07:29:59 PM »
I have no problem role-playing a character who believes in supernatural forces that I don't personally believe in. I sacrifice cuts regularly. I hang up the bear skull. It's a way of paying respect and expressing gratitude, if nothing else.

My only problem with rituals would be the extent to which they're overpowered or near-mandatory, and I don't think that's a big issue.

Here it is. I found that most of the ones on YouTube are overly long/complicated, so I kept it simple and focused on what I think are the most important recommendations.

It seems there is a (somewhat flexible?) limit to the number of different item types that a character can carry at one time. Is there a similar limit to the number of different item types that can be dropped on a single tile?

General Discussion / Re: "The Challenge"
« on: April 08, 2020, 03:56:15 PM »
I think it would be more fun to have a community character with a challenging start (maybe ditch the hurt, helpless and afraid start and just do the Unreal World start but without any items or clothing?) that we could each play separately and report on how we fared. The only rule would be no do-overs (you get one shot, no going back to old saves.) And disclose all mods (preferably people would play with no mods so we'd have a level playing field, but disclosure at a minimum.)

If Sami likes the idea, maybe he could pick the character?

My jimmies get rustled every time a village dog blocks my way. ESPECIALLY when they block the door and essentially lock me in. I've been very tempted to kick them on several occasions, but I've managed to restrain myself each time.

Why is a hunting bow worth more than a long bow?

I get that not every item is going to be useful or optimal. But I don't get why I can offer a hunting bow from the njerp I just killed and this old man is happy to give me a masterwork long bow for it.

Just walking through the woods on the wilderness map and suddenly got this message and the game dropped some of my items.

This has happened a few times lately. It might not be a bug. It might be just the game telling me not to carry so many different types of items? But then why does the number of different item types I can carry fluctuate?

The game doesn't seem to like it when you travel far from a skin being soaked for leather. Is this by design? Has anyone done this successfully?

Details: I put a bear skin out to soak on the morning of day 6 week 3 before winter season. It said the skin would be ready in 13 days.

I travelled far away to a cultural territory 2 territories over.

I returned in the early evening of day 4, last week before winter season (12.5 days later) to a rotten de-haired bear skin.

I have a question about whether you'd consider something an exploit or not. It's a tactic I used to complete a quest:

Spoiler: show
Do you consider it an exploit to kill humans (robbers, njerps, etc.) from a punt with a bow and arrow while they flail around in the water? If you want to see the specific example I'm referring to, it's in episode 120 of my YouTube series here: https://youtu.be/8qGHD7BKk0w?t=3264

If you wander around on different tile types, pick some funny grass, some interesting leaves, some strange flowers, etc, make a note of where you found them (maybe with an F6 marker) and then bring themb ack to the sage. if the funny grass is wrong, he'll refuse it and say that's not what he wanted. if the interesting leaves is right, he'll say good, but that's not all i wanted! and then you notice you look through your map markers and see you found the interesting leaves in a road tile so you go look at some other road tiles.
Are you suggesting I use creativity, ingenuity and persistence to complete this quest? How DARE you?!

Gameplay questions / Re: Head gear, bird leather

I think the clothing system strikes the right balance between fun and realistic. If you only had one 'best item' per slot and could only wear one item, it would rob the game of some of its charm. I LIKE that layering is in most cases as effective as buying some heavy mail or lamellar monstrosity.

What bothers ME about the clothing system is how often it's more optimal to wear heavily damaged clothing than 'brand new' clothing. In a perfect unreal world, I think that would be something to fix. But I don't see it as a really high priority. A fix would look something like: If an item is 80% of the 'brand new' weight, it would only protect 64% as much (.8*.8) and if an item is 40% of the 'brand new' weight, it would only protect 16% as much (.4*.4,) etc.

I'd also like to see the player be able to craft fine clothing (I think that should also be true of anything else the player can craft.) I'm glad you can only acquire masterwork items via trade, but there should at least be a reasonable chance to make fine clothing if you start with fine fur or better, have a minimal penalty, and have quality tools.

Since when marriage is something political? Let's leave out 2020 drama out of this, this is a game in another period of time. The elks should decide what to add, if they decide to add something, based on what happened then, aka history, not politics.

If they decide to do that they will be called nasty names. Most people who get called those nasty names capitulate to the people doing the name-calling. Rather than that happening, I'd rather see things remain as they are.

General Discussion / UrW YouTube content
« on: March 26, 2020, 05:42:41 PM »
I don't know where to post this, or if for some reason we're not supposed to discuss such things here (in which case, feel free to delete this thread,) but I've started posting a lot of UrW content to my YouTube channel.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXqodERK6ClIiPYJooxj1fBjjLw08Mid3

Bear in mind that most people will find this content very slow-paced and boring (maybe watching at 2x speed would help?)

I also enjoy this YouTube channel, although he only produces one fairly short episode per week.

Edit: My character's name also might seem a little presumptuous but I wasn't really planning to feature him on a YouTube series when I created him. Sorry for any offense.

I like things as they are. This is another slippery slope to introducing politics into UrW.

Interesting. I virtually never put my dog on a leash. Kiting is one of their strengths and I wouldn't want to take that away from them. I would NEVER do it, but they don't obey when I tell them to stay (even when I leave them a plentiful supply of bones,) so occasionally I tie them up so I don't have to go hunting for them.
