Gameplay questions / Is injury >100% supposed to guarantee death?
« on: January 13, 2022, 02:51:11 AM »
In my current playthrough I received injuries in excess of 100% (104% to be precise)
Spoiler: show
(doing the robbers quest if that matters.)
I got the red screen. Then I regained consciousness (with an injury of 86% displaying.) Is this a bug or is sustaining injuries in excess of 100% not necessarily supposed to be fatal?

I started to make a small deadfall trap at my 'home base' just to make sure I had the items I needed. I cancelled making it (because I want to place it somewhere else.) Now the game says I am carrying a total of 36 lbs even though I have 2 slender trunks (100 lbs total) in my inventory, amongst other things.

Edit: When you go to the zoomed out map, the weight comes back. So it can't really be used as a significant exploit.

Suggestions / Coudes or Coudières or Couters or Cowters?
« on: April 20, 2020, 11:35:18 PM »
I'm curious how much thought was given to naming this item. My understanding is that coudes is just the french word for elbows and that one of the other 3 words might be more appropriate to describe a piece of armor made from iron designed to protect the elbows. But I could be wrong, I often am.

Here it is. I found that most of the ones on YouTube are overly long/complicated, so I kept it simple and focused on what I think are the most important recommendations.

Just walking through the woods on the wilderness map and suddenly got this message and the game dropped some of my items.

This has happened a few times lately. It might not be a bug. It might be just the game telling me not to carry so many different types of items? But then why does the number of different item types I can carry fluctuate?

General Discussion / UrW YouTube content
« on: March 26, 2020, 05:42:41 PM »
I don't know where to post this, or if for some reason we're not supposed to discuss such things here (in which case, feel free to delete this thread,) but I've started posting a lot of UrW content to my YouTube channel.

Bear in mind that most people will find this content very slow-paced and boring (maybe watching at 2x speed would help?)

I also enjoy this YouTube channel, although he only produces one fairly short episode per week.

Edit: My character's name also might seem a little presumptuous but I wasn't really planning to feature him on a YouTube series when I created him. Sorry for any offense.

I think the tutorial is good for handing out free stuff to new players, but I'd rather see the stat increase happen on your first anniversary or something so that the tutorial isn't something you feel like you have to do if you want to give your character every chance to be awesome. As it is, I just discard any free stuff the game gives me, but that just feels unpleasant.

You could have the first one on your first anniversary and a 2nd one on your 5th anniversary or something like that.

It would also be cool if the common skill leveled (incredibly slowly) again based on longevity. You can't grind it other than by staying alive for years and years. Weatherlore should level similarly, if it doesn't already, so that when you're old you can be a meteorologist like the old farts in the village.

I was LOVING this game until yesterday when I started getting frequent 'map maintenance' messages. Now I get them EVERY time I zoom in or out of a tile.

I think perhaps related to that is that in the last 2 towns I visited, when I pick up an item, it isn't listed as unpaid. Some players might enjoy that, but bartering is one of the things I love about the game and all the free stuff I can take isn't.

In another thread, Privateer mentioned that perhaps I'm zooming in/out too much and that I should just play on the zoomed out map for the most part unless I see an elk or whatever. Is this game salvageable or do I need to start over?

FWIW my computer is fairly decent (i7-8700 w/ GTX 1080, 16GB of RAM and lots of hard drive space) and I'm not running any mods or anything.

Edit: Privateer also linked this thread, which seems to pertain to the same issue:

Gameplay questions / Various questions from a new player
« on: February 09, 2020, 07:41:18 PM »
Hello, I'm fairly new to the game and I have a few questions.

Can pets freeze to death without getting wet? (Like on the coldest night of the year.)

If I hit an animal with a javelin and it runs away, will that javelin remain in the game forever or does it disappear when that animal is killed by another animal? Or can that animal just disappear?

I've had ravens steal my food before. I've encountered robbers who beat me within an inch of my life and took stuff from me. But other than that, I've never had someone take something I left behind (at least that I noticed.) So, aside from animals stealing food and robbers demanding that you hand over some stuff or else will someone take something you left on the map somewhere? Like, if I drop a few furs at a shelter, will they ALWAYS be there when I get back or is there some possibility that they'll disappear?

Can you get randomly murdered in your sleep? Like theoretically, a fox could kill you if he found you asleep at a shelter, no?

If you choose the boost stats reward for the tutorial, what is the specific bonus? I assume you can't boost a stat if the bar is full already (like if it's at maximum)?

Is there a crafting penalty depending on the time of day? Is there a crafting penalty based on how vigourous you're feeling? Is there a crafting penalty if you're cool or cold or if you're hot and sweaty? Is there a crafting penalty based on your nutrition level (assuming you're not starving)? Or is the crafting outcome purely based on your skills, whatever penalty is displayed, and RNG? For example, if I'm tanning a skin and it says that I failed to maintain the quality of the skin, does it give me a better chance if I tan the skin as soon as I wake up, fill my stomach and drink?

Is there any disadvantage to being Hot and Sweaty? Is there any disadvantage to being Cool? Or do all disadvantages happen when you're either Cold or colder than that?

Answers to any of the above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Greetings

Hello, I just wanted to say I absolutely love this game. I discovered it about a month ago and I'm totally addicted. I'm sure that eventually it will grow stale (like delicious roasted elk cuts) but today is not that day.

I was so distraught when a hare ran away with my masterwork javelin and the trail went cold, I looked for that thing for days ... and then I got my first dog ... javelin shmavelin (okay, I still want that javelin back.) And then my first dog, who I'd hunted with for months, was killed by a Njerpez ... I was as gutted as my dog.

Just now my 2nd dog was killed by wolves (I figured me and a dog and a hunting buddy could take on a wolfpack) along with the companion I hired to complete the tutorial. Hurt a lot less, I hadn't been through much with this dog.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
