Modding Tutorial and Help this is a compilation I created of the games mod tutorial, others modding help, and my own edits. this is how I learned how to mod unreal world and make some custom content and hope it can help someone else. figured I should post it and also set up a section in the new forums for modding help and discussion, I wont be giving help (because I am less experienced than most) but I can try, and I'm sure many others will help if you post your wip mods or problems you run into.

Re: Cath the lost As she packs up the meat and skin and heads south along the shoreline, she spies a lynx out on the ice nearby.  Perhaps it wounded the doe and scared her out onto the ice?  She decides that the lynx deserves a cut of the meat as a reward for its help.  She can afford to be generous.  She drops a cut of reindeer meat and slowly backs away, keeping the lynx in sight.



As she watches from a safe distance, the lynx approaches the cut carefully, circles, and then devours it before running off.  She feels at peace with the spirits.

quality of life For new players:

Since the UI can be a bit unwieldy at times, here's some things I learned:

The combination of using NUMPAD+ and the TAB key is really useful to drop, equip, dress/undress/haul certain items without having to scroll through your stuff.
NUMPAD+ = select everything
SPACE = confirm
TAB = activate filter

Examples:

TAB+'f' selects all food, so it is very useful to dump all the food into the cellar. TAB+'f', NUMPAD+ and SPACE do a great job here.

If I want to cook those 259 elk cuts, what I do is
press 'd' (to drop)
press NUMPAD+ (to select everything)
press TAB 'f'
press NUMPAD- (to unselect everything)
press SPACE (Now I will drop everything that is not food)
When roasting my cuts I can now use 'r' to repeat, and if I am only carrying raw meat, the process is really fast.

I do the same for tanning stuff, drop everything except hides, press 'g' to get my knife (and some fat) from the pile at my feet, and I am ready to go with 0 penalties

I do the same when trading in a village sometimes, when I drop everything I don't want to sell. I undress all clothing via SHIFT+T, TAB 'a', NUMPAD+, SPACE. Now I can let the villagers choose "which items they actually want", and I can also carry more.

The game takes materials from the ground. When crafting it is useful to first drop everything (NUMPAD+, SPACE), and then pick up some critical materials that cannot be used from the ground (like food or cords).

When cooking (or drying food) it is useful to build the cellar right next to the shelter. This way I can make a fire next to the cellar and cook while standing on the cellar. The food is prepared "inside" the cellar. If the fire is really small, the food won't burn and will be stored in the cellar without the need to move it there.

About drying food: On my first couple of games I didn't know that clothing can be used to make cords. Linen, wool, leather, and fur clothing can be transformed into cords. One cord can take 19 cuts.

Food preservation: Food on companions spoils more slowly. Shift+'g' can be used in the overland map, so whenever I am hungry, I can take some meat from my companion instead of carrying the food myself. (Also useful for trading.)

I swear by shutters! For the first time ever, I was attacked by robbers at my cabin! Fortunately, on a whim I had built every wall with shutters, so, I actually saw these coming on the other side of my fence (I had built no traps!).

I rushed to my weapon stash (I was inside my cabin) and grabbed a lot of Fine Broadheads and ran back to the shutter. I managed to put 3 of them on the ground, though they were not dead yet. Then, I heard a door opening behind me! lol... I fired two more arrows and had to switch to my spear. My previous arrow work had badly injured the two inside and I finished them with my spear. Then I went outside and killed another lying on the ground. Circling the cabin, I found the last one and got a kill with a thrown javelin. I assume that there were only 4 because that's all I found.

What a great adventure! I have to ask, though, would my cabin have been robbed if I had not been home then?

Re: Game Crash - raft and dogs gone, rope still in inventory I make a backup after every play session. While crashes are rare, they do happen very rarely, and when they do, the cause is typically tricky to track down (all the easy ones were dealt with long ago). Also, crashes can corrupt the save completely if you're unlucky, or partially, as in your case, so a backup is definitely handy.

If you made a copy of your save immediately after the crash (i.e. before resuming), Sami might be able to get something out of it. If you didn't make a copy, I'd make one now to salvage whatever can be salvaged in terms of info in case Sami asks for it.

I'm unable to understand if your character was found swimming on the zoomed in map or if it was on the zoomed out one (as that's happened on one of my crashes), so it would probably be useful if you can clarify that. I'd also look for the missing items/animals on both the zoomed in map and the zoomed out one.

Re: "The Challenge" Trying it out for the 1st time. Random tribe is Drik, which means I have almost no skills at all. I managed to get ONE skill up to 50% with a creation point- SWORD...lol.

Threw rocks at a hare and some birds, all to no avail. A stone knife allows for fire and branches, and three found slender trees permit me to make a shelter, which takes me SIX HOURS to complete...bah! I just de-construct and carry the spruce twigs and the slender tree trunks with me when I leave.

Fed on lingonberries, 'sweet' berries, and 'nice' grass for 3 days. Even when I eat my fill of berries I'm told it leaves me unable to quench thirst, which was at least not yet fatal.  Found a lake on day 4. The area immediately taunted me with a doe and fawn. Didn't even try because I can't be away from fire long enough to chase them. I did brain a squirrel that wandered near. One cut and a ragged fur.

Even Neanderthals dressed better than me...

Questions about Intelligence & other stats I'm currently going to wrap up an Advanced Adventures gamecourse soon, and was going to go for stat increases.  I already know i want more Strength & Endurance, but I'm trying to decide what else I should get.

Basically, I'm wondering what Intelligence actually affects.  I assume it can bump you up to 2 stars or 3 stars for learning certain skills, but are there any other in-game effects?  Does it increase the likelihood of success with any skills? 

Similarly, what does Will do?  I assume it makes it harder to pass out or die - is there anything else?  Does it make you get cold slower, or decrease fatigue?  I'm just trying to decide if it's worth it to increase these more nebulous mental attributes, at the expense of something like Agility.

anything
