Suggestions / Re: Trade Viewing, Ropes
« on: November 03, 2018, 04:06:10 PM »
Three javelins ( I said 3, it actually takes 5 or 6 javelins) will trade for a rope and javelins are essentially free. It seems a cheap-to-get item. Anyway, I was just spitballing, trying to think of something logical to do with the ropes I've accumulated. Maybe require, initially, ropes to set up pack animals?

I have a woodman companion, whom I've hired before, who says 'he'll fell some trees when he has the proper equipment and some proper trees'. He has a hand axe and I've given him a woodsman's axe, and there are a lot of loggable trees, not small ones.

2nd, though it may have been fixed in the latest patch- I hunted and killed an elk calf.  It weighed 350 pounds, had a 3 pound skin and 3 pounds of fat!

Lasse- I've had a lot of hunter/woodsmen/adventurer companions with only expert skills. They seem to have two skills and I've yet to find one with GM skill in both.

Suggestions / Trade Viewing, Ropes

I'd like to suggest that, when trading, your customer can see what is loaded on a pack animal, too, not just what the character is holding.

I suggest that a rope, which seems to be of use solely for making rafts/leashes, should be required to dress out a large kill, at least when a table is not available. You'd have to hang a kill to do the job in the wild.

I know that ropes can be used where a cord can be, but, why would one waste a more costly rope? Beyond rafts and leashes, there seems to be no useful purpose for ropes.

Gameplay questions / Re: Kaumolais Weapons shortage?

Check the villagers instead. They usually have one or two Kaumo weapon in the inventories. Will they sell you is another problem.
If someone don't want to sell a Kaumo weapon, ask him to go hunting. If he agrees, give him food, get out of village and kill him.
Well do this in regions where you don't live. Find such person in a village where is nothing good for trading. Because if you kill someone from a village, you can't trade in that village any more, villagers will say: "No trading until our adventurer/hunter will come back."

I'm psychologically incapable of doing this willfully. heh- I've got over 3K hours in Skyrim and have never played a thief or assassin. I think it goes back to that old question- Would you break the law if no one would find out? But, I appreciate that you offered a solution...lol.

Palu- The Bear Skull spell gives a response, too.

Wow! RNG, eh? Winter is almost over so I'll put aside my decent Northern spear soon. I completed the 2nd quest line and got my sword, club, and shield skills to competent , though I think the club is at Talented. I just can't let all these Njerp weapons go to waste! heh I've fought with both the sword and a mace once. Both times I put the guy down with a single blow! Scares me to think I could have received that kind of damage myself.

General Discussion / Re: 3.52 Update?

That's great. On Steam, I had this clever plan to trade most of the stuff I had to give up for a Northern spear. I would, of course, make boards! Worked fine, twice, for about 12 boards total. Then I got a real surprise reply after I MOVED a dozen more, from a good distance. 'We don't need no stinking boards!' lol (OK, They didn't REALLY say that, but they should have!)

General Discussion / 3.52 Update?

My Steam game got an automatic update. I also have a game going on the original game from this site. Will that update be available for this version, too?

I'm into my 2nd winter now. Last winter my trap fence was awesome! That and my smaller traps set at a small lake resulted in 11 elk and deer, 3 foxes, a hare, and numerous birds. Perhaps not strangely, since winter broke, all that area has yielded is a pair of foxes. From the 3 successful bear deadfalls elsewhere from that winter, all I've gotten since is one wolf and one elk. That's over the whole spring/autumn period. I know the Gods are not unhappy with me, so, where did my good fortune go?

I farmed a small 4x10 area that yielded about 500 turnips (had other things planted late season but I neglected them and all withered), harvested about 2K of lake reeds, gathered a hundred or so of about a dozen useful plants, some used for the several wounds I've encountered.

Anyway, I built a new settlement with a good-sized cabin and a barn, but I'm not using it yet. It's on a small island but I've built no defenses yet. I've traveled through this winter to all but one clan area, scouting and trading. Three dogs and the same small bull still accompany me, though all the dogs are replacements for their originals...bah!

I have enough food now to last a year even if I had no other hunting successes. Think I'll finally build that sauna now...lol. Time to relax!

Aye. The Kaumo seem to me to be the poorest clan. I guess they're so proud of their weapons because there's so few of them. heh

I traded for both a decent Northern Spear and Knife. I believe it was the Kuikka who had them. THEN I got a Masterwork Northern Knife from a treasure reward. Sadly, I don't think it'll ever be used. I have an equal quality Broad knife and Hunters knife, so, it's never chosen. I was surprised to find the Master Fisher Knife is the one chosen for crafting. I'd like to find a Master Small knife, to see if it would be chosen over the fisher knife. I also wonder why there is a Fisher knife. You never see fish being prepared, they just get roasted.

Gameplay questions / Kaumolais Weapons shortage?
« on: October 27, 2018, 03:48:53 AM »
I have ventured far and long to reach the Kaumo lands to complete the valuable fur mission (which I completed immediately with a superior squirrel! lol). My once Fine Kaumo spear has deteriorated to a merely decent and I hoped to find a better Kaumo spear.

Now, having visited 14 Kaumo villages so far, I'm saddened to say that I failed to find more than one Kaumo weapon (not available for trade, nor an improvement on my own).  The signature weapons of the Kaumo, non-existent? I'm baffled.

Yesterday, I was going to blunt strike a trapped deer. I clicked the WRONG direction and pole-axed my bull! Fortunately, he got up despite the SKULL FRACTURE he was suffering.

Today, I got confused while looking at one of my dogs to see if he was carrying the RAFT I thought I had loaded on my bull. For some reason, I instead shot him with my bow! My other two dogs, concluding that there was an enemy in our midst, attacked and killed the poor, trusting, animal.

So, on the return trip, I carried back a hare that couldn't resist a turnip, a deer I panicked into rushing onto thin ice, to break through and drown, and the ragged remains of the dog that deserved a better end...heh.

Palu- Yeah, I didn't figure that out for about 4 game months...heh. My small bull caps out a little over 470, so it's probably 475. I didn't calculate for the last few pounds.

I have a small bull. I'm finding that, regardless of weight, there is a maximum number of items they can carry, too.
