Development News / Re: Who let the dogs out...
« on: April 25, 2019, 07:03:34 PM »
WIll our personally owned dogs now bark in alarm if they see Njerp or robbers, before I am attacked/fighting? They do a fine job with undesirable beasts but seem to require a trigger with humans.

Gameplay questions / Another thing that puzzles me...
« on: April 23, 2019, 03:41:42 AM »
Why is it that, when I'm on the strategic map and am told that I've spotted some type of tracks, then when I go to the tactical map there are no tracks? Logically, one would expect to be taken to the tracks that captured my attention.

Gameplay questions / Re: Can't finish the ritual-quest!
« on: April 23, 2019, 03:35:28 AM »
I truly think there's some bug in this ritual. I've done it before, successfully, but only after several attempts. I have it again and have failed on the first attempt, again. I've just given up on the ritual because I can't see any value for the time invested.

I also don't bother with the Lost Animal quest anymore. I wasted too many days searching dense woods for footprints that, in the end, found nothing.

However, to the OP, I can attest that the first ritual on the list, the Sacrifice, is what needs to be done to complete this. It won't use up the entire silver item, just takes a tiny bite out of it.

Now I'm wondering, if I'd been defeated, would they have taken everything in my cabin??

Gameplay questions / Re: How could I change the weight of log?
« on: April 08, 2019, 05:58:53 AM »
I believe a standard size cow is just a little bit too weak to carry a log, so yes, I think it needs to be a big one (and I suspect a small bull would be too weak too).

I think it has to be a Big bull to carry a trunk. That's been my experience. Small bull and bull are both inadequate for the job.

General Discussion / I swear by shutters!
« on: March 31, 2019, 04:35:38 AM »
For the first time ever, I was attacked by robbers at my cabin! Fortunately, on a whim I had built every wall with shutters, so, I actually saw these coming on the other side of my fence (I had built no traps!).

I rushed to my weapon stash (I was inside my cabin) and grabbed a lot of Fine Broadheads and ran back to the shutter. I managed to put 3 of them on the ground, though they were not dead yet. Then, I heard a door opening behind me! lol... I fired two more arrows and had to switch to my spear. My previous arrow work had badly injured the two inside and I finished them with my spear. Then I went outside and killed another lying on the ground. Circling the cabin, I found the last one and got a kill with a thrown javelin. I assume that there were only 4 because that's all I found.

What a great adventure! I have to ask, though, would my cabin have been robbed if I had not been home then?

Could it have been a wolf in sheep's clothing? (hehe)

Not bugs / Re: Skramasaksi in kaumo villages. Bug or not?
« on: March 31, 2019, 04:14:42 AM »
The rare Kaumo spear? Yeah, With my PC, I've gone through every Kaumo village and found but one spear! As for finding items within the 'wrong' culture, I just assume they traded for it at some time. How else would they have the various Masterwork items?

Solved'n'fixed bug reports / Re: The Snakes of Winter!
« on: March 29, 2019, 01:39:17 AM »
The snakes in the real version of Finland hibernate through winter, but the ones in the Unreal versions do not care about the cold (and the bears don't hibernate either).

This is more a case of an element missing in the simulation than a bug.

Good point about the bears. I've trapped three in a couple of early winter weeks and was wondering when their hibernation would begin. Oh, and I finally got that snake...heh.

Suggestions / Re: Rendezvous for Foreign Traders
« on: March 29, 2019, 01:36:14 AM »
I was thinking there could be an annual post on the Baltic Coast, representing the Baltic trading nations, and there might be one on a long river that connects to the Drik area.

Suggestions / Re: Fix Robbers
« on: March 28, 2019, 02:28:20 AM »
Perhaps the problem is with plucky robbers who, for some reason, fight to the death rather than run when they're losing?

I have to ask if there were/are really snakes in Finland that galivant through the snowy fields? I'm presently in the 3 day of the 5 week before midwinter point and there's a snake roaming near my cabin, despite the ankle-deep snow on the ground.

General Discussion / Re: What your heaviest kill so far ?
« on: March 26, 2019, 09:16:45 PM »
Last night I trapped a bull elk weighing over 800! I lost about half the carcass because, having found it after tiring, it was too heavy to load on my bull so I tired myself further skinning and butchering until I passed out. I came to, still very tired. After putting the skin, cuts, and remainder of the carcass (still well over 200 but now reduced in weight from butchering) on my bull, I got it all to my cabin (which was close by!) and dropped it all in the cellar. After resting, I worked the hide through the first two steps and proceeded to dry the meat, whereupon I noted that the carcass was now rotted. RATS!

Still, I got 368 cuts from what I'd already butchered and I think that was my highest.

Gameplay questions / Re: Bait order relevancy, various questions
« on: March 10, 2019, 07:08:34 PM »
Small game is actually the easiest to get early: you just set up a few lines of the smallest lever traps, and birds are bound to get caught in them sooner or later. You don't even need to have any tools to make those traps, although it's easier if you can cut down small trees). Squirrels are easy to hunt with rocks once you've encountered them (which is on an opportunity basis, rather than something to hunt for actively). I've never had much luck with early fishing, as it's been a way to extend the time it takes to starve to death (I've never gone the full distance, though, but given up once starvation gets bad, and gone over to hunting).

That sounds astonishing to me! I've had some difficulty, occasionally, catching fish but I've never starved to death. ummm, I'll bet you play with less optimized PCs than I do. With a PC with little skill in fishing, I can imagine failing badly. I've had some bad streaks even when my PCs have their moderate skills, around 40. Contrariwise, I've played a PC skilled in fishing and found he took days to make a paltry lean-to shelter. That one died from exposure...lol.

I use small game fat like squirrels or birds for the same reason. Even several are less than .1

Yes, that's good advice. I mention the roach because in the early I can always acquire those, whereas I may have some trouble trapping the small game.
