Gameplay questions / Re: Kota
« on: June 27, 2020, 01:28:58 AM »
It isn't obvious, but the kota building components only need to be adjacent to the kota framework.  You can build a kota up to 5x5 with 3x3 worth of space inside if you have enough furs.  The center tile is supposed to be kept clear so you can build a fire there to keep warm.

I'd expect the smallest building is a 3x4.

Code: [Select]
OOO
O#O < - Fireplace
O_O < - Open Space
O+O

54 logs, 20 boards (1 additional log or felled tree), 2 slender trunks, and 35 stones.

Roughly 60 ingame hours of continuous man hours work.  In practice at least twice that long to account for the need to sleep.  This also assume that you have gathered everything beforehand.  Also assumes you are working with masterwork equipment and that you don't have a bad result (in this case the work takes much longer than normal), so factor in another 50% increase in the time it takes if your character is average.

Assume that it will take a little over a week to build once you have all the materials in the spot you want to build at.

Yea, I don't understand why this game decided to build in a suicide command.

Since files are changed as you play (as time passes) when you close a character, the files have most likely been changed from the point of loading. If you choose to not save "make consistent save" the file data must be abandoned.

No it doesn't.  You can just abandon the changes.

General Discussion / Re: Need some help with Unreal World please

How exactly does tracking work? Should I keep using it everywhere on the zoomed out map to find animals? Or does it only works on the zoomed in map? And in the zoomed in map it only works above tracks I'm already seeing?

I'm folowing the basic quest to learn how to play and I'm stuck in the part about creating a raft. I don't have any rope/cords, I know how to make cords from leather, but the problem is, I can only find squirrels and it takes forever to make 1 cord from their leathers. Am I doing something wrong in this game?

Tracking 'can' rarely notify of tracks on a travel map tile (zoomed out), Tracks need to be underfoot to be 'read' on local map (zoomed in).
You can take off a piece of clothing, and cut some cords from the item. cords can be cut from fur, leather and cloth.

Cord no longer works as rope unfortunately.  Depending on the time of year, you can go up to a birch tree and select Peel Bark.  This will get you a lump of birch-bark, that you can use to create a birch bark rope.  This birch bark rope can be used to create a raft.

- added: smoking requires continuous maintaining of fire

In the previous versions smoking succeeded if the room was heated once, and the process required no further maintenance. Now the heating must be maintained through the whole process.

Wait, are you saying that covering 400 stale chunks of meat with the thinnest layer of smoke from a tiny pile of twigs in my cabin fireplace, once, in 3 weeks is not enough to ensure that the meat is properly smoked?

Suggestions / Re: Too many Njerps?

To be fair, if they where just foreign explorer's who where paranoid I would get why encountering them one on one would make sense, but yea it seems like there are too many scouts and not enough war parties.

One other thing I find frustrating is that you can't tell the difference between a single individual on the map vrs a group of people.  It should be obvious really.  If people are easier to spot than animals, then groups of people should be even easier to spot and there should be multiple people on the map tile.

I've tried living there, but I still get attacked by the Njerpez.  That and the mountains make it difficult to see any game that might be nearby because there are so many of them.

Gameplay questions / Re: Multiplayer - what are your opinions?

Live interaction in a turn based, tile based, rougelike wouldn't work.  But...  the idea makes me think of Nethack, specifically bones files.

I think it would be a cool idea to randomly stumble upon old settlements that have been worn down via a settlement aging mechanic, or perhaps stumble on a warrior who was wounded by a now deceased adventurer, or a secret stash that was once maintained by another player (who would be dead, since it would suck to have somebody steal your crap in real-time) and have this all facilitated via a server online that you can log into.

The world in-game would have to be far bigger though than it currently is or you'd be stumbling across stuff constantly.

I don't think I've ever gotten a full decapitation or severed a limb, and I've been playing since... 3.13 patch 2?

General Discussion / Re: What are you doing while being fatigued?
« on: June 04, 2020, 07:20:08 PM »
You can train trapping by setting and resetting a snare trap you bring with you. Note, however, that the spirits don't seem to like excessive setting of traps, and they don't seem to take removal into account. At least that's my explanation for why I got a fairly bad relation for no apparent reason.

Working 'till you drop gets boring when it results in constant interruption of work, though, and for a number of tasks (e.g. hide working) I want my character to have zero fatigue (at least until it's I've failed the first step, so there's no high quality to maintain).

I've got a macro for setting and picking up traps again to pass the time and train trapping, and I take no relation hit with the spirit world for doing so.

I've had Njerpez warriors visit my cabins when they are too close to lakes or rivers, along with multiple elk's, stags, wolves, and bears.  Not that it would be impossible for them to stumble across them elsewhere, but if you happen to settle at a place where there are there seems to be a fair amount of foot traffic then you might find more Njerpez.  Oddly enough, I had a Njerpez that had a dog just continue on through instead of attacking me, and at first I though it was because of the pits I had setup infront of my cabin door, but a different one came by about 8 months later and did stop to attack me.

For that reason, I've learned to try and not let the bed be visible from the window shutters, and preferably not the door when opened.  building a cabin this way takes more time however, but it minimizes the number of sleep attacks you get.

Gameplay questions / Re: Varied handaxes?
« on: May 28, 2020, 09:18:19 PM »
There are 2 types of hand-axes defined in-game.  One hand-axe has 3 blunt, 6 edge, and 5 point damage, while the other hand-axe 4 blunt, 6 edge, and 4 point damage.

General Discussion / Re: What's the warmest fur?
« on: May 14, 2020, 04:00:49 PM »
According to this: https://unrealworld.fandom.com/wiki/Clothing  , bear and badger are best for warmth.

PS: Bear is best for everything, not only warmth. Couple that with Iron protection and you are set to go.

Maybe someone can check the game files to see which one is better.

The tables are the same but this article is otherwise more up to date.

My guess is that a bird landed for some reason.  It doesn't have to be related to any prey, predator, or trap.  I've seen birds just land and make a thumping sound as far as the game is concerned.
