Suggestions / Re: Too many Njerps?

You can backup your save by copying the save folder (while UrW isn't running a game: escaping out to the OS and copying an active save isn't advisable). This can be used for "what if" testing, such as: I definitely think attacking that bear naked equipped with only a knife is a stupid idea, but I want to find out if it's possible, as well as an actual backup if the save gets corrupted (it's rare, but that doesn't help when it happens).
Just copying the character folder after each session and then delete all but the last one when they're too many should allow you to recover from crashes with at most one session lost. I don't think you can play from the backup folder directly, as I think the folder name has to match the character name, but you can rename the copy back to the original and then continue.

Not bugs / Re: Forum posting limit

There is a posting rate limit, so you have to wait some time if you're posting a lot (and I don't think it's per sub forum, so by the time you wrote this thread you should have been able to post a new suggestion instead).

Gameplay questions / Re: Varied handaxes?

I'd suspect the wounded adventurer quest items to be unique (well, as far as you can, with limited range numbers), just as I'd expect each bird thief quest set of feathers to be unique (and the herbal blend quest awards being non stacking even when given the same name). With the wounded adventure  items I wouldn't find out if they stack, as I always return their items to them.

As Privateer said, they sometime flee, for some unknown reason. I believe the behavior changed a fair while back.

Given that worn items stack with others of the same level of wear, it's reasonable to assume the Id is generated according to some logic that always generates the same value for the same set of data. The OP puzzle, though, is why there are two versions of undamaged hand axes rather than a single one.

Hope you don't find that axe, as you'd probably find it between your character's head and his body...

I've seen the same thing. There are two (at least) categories of hand axes, but I have no idea why (unlike the two kinds of logs). Like JP_Finn, the different kinds can be "collected" from the same kind of source.

Gameplay questions / Re: Multiplayer - what are your opinions?

Multi player invariably results in sacrifices of single player functionality because they don't work in multi player, or the resources were just spent mostly on multi player. Multi player is thus a warning label to me. As mentioned, turn based is a spectacularly poor match for multi player. If you want to get killed by a random kid there are a bazillion of multi player FPS games, so there's no need to destroy single player ones.

Not bugs / Re: Loading a save game uses a tick of time

Yes, I thought it was to make combat save/savescum(or kill and hope the save is OK)/load exploits less attractive.

I'm sorry, Sami, but I can't find my way back to those tracks: all tracks I find now are either a day old or an hour fresh (and I did find the bull in a save I branched off when I encountered the fresh tracks). However, I saw the tracks switched from bull tracks to cow tracks as I loaded the save (where my character was standing on them).

I suspect the older tracks were stronger in that they were probably overlapping in the old state, so the new tracks would make fresh marks with an unclear direction on top of the old ones which already had an unclear direction. When it comes to strength, even bird tracks are capable of making you unable to determine the direction of an elk (or bull) you're tracking.

I'll keep my eyes open should I encounter the situation again.

Just checking: Is time one of the things modified? I'm currently failing at the bull lost in spirit cover quest because the bull didn't appear when I burned the hour old track leading just ending (and the ones around for good measure, after a while).
Trying to search further after sleeping, I follow a lot of half day old tracks that disappear into day old overlapping tracks and seem to reappear at some other side (with so many overlapping tracks and half day old tracks it's really not possible to tell which exiting tracks are continuations of which entering ones).

Suggestions / Re: A few ideas after playing quite a lot:

UrW is based on historical realities (with actual folklore added), so smoking in a sauna would most definitely be a thing (and I believe you can buy "sauna smoked" ham nowadays in some places in the world). Obviously, you wouldn't direct the smoke inwards when using the sauna for its "real" purpose.

In terms of "mega projects" my previous character was almost finished building a "palisade" around the homestead (at the world tile border, as auto zooming in got wonky when outside of it. It was an ordinary wall, technically, of course. It did help that various woodsmen had cut down a huge number of trees in the vicinity, so I didn't have to cut that many myself.

Remembering where you left your raft: use overworld markers...

The current recipes can take items and name the result based on the name of one of them, but not perform logic to select a name based on a combination of  input items. I believe your suggestion can be implemented using the current recipe system, but I don't think you'll get away from one recipe per head/haft pair with that.
Those better at modding than I am may be able to deny or confirm, though.

Of course, there's nothing inherently wrong with suggesting enhancements to the crafting recipe logic either.

569
I'd remove the ability to make the awkward variants. The current menu system doesn't like a huge number of recipes, and there's little benefit in adding a number of variants that have no useful niche. The only situation I can imagine where you'd want to make one of those would be if you somehow acquired a mismatching head and haft and had no axe at all prior to that (and making an appropriate haft is either too hard with your stone knife/axe, or would take too long in your starving state).

Sami is very keen to clean up any bugs in the game, even if they're not very significant to the person encountering them.

I don't believe you can meet them without going though the dialog steps, just like I don't think you can perform new bird thief quests without going through all the dialog steps even though your character already knows the ritual. Note that this is what I think: I don't think I've tried to perform rituals my character doesn't know, even if I, the player, knows them.
