Gameplay questions / Re: Task trigger
« on: July 23, 2020, 11:16:54 AM »
Bringing above quality items with you can reveal the barter quest, if present. Note that this means you may want to leave your masterworks broad knife you've spent a lot of time to get hold of at home and bring a fine knife with you instead when visiting villages (apart from knives, they can also desire arrows). I'm not aware of any other quest/mission that's triggered by items, but there are some missions that require other conditions to be met (such as being on friendly terms with the village, being a member of the same tribe, and being a member of a different tribe).

The quest should tell you what to do. If you follow her you obviously go towards her, in whatever direction she leads.

If you think summoning (powerful?) otherworldly beings and then attack them is a good idea you can try (I've never done it, so I don't know what would happen).

I can tell you what has happened to my characters from encountering her (there's more than one possible outcome), but it's probably better to try for yourself.

The bird thief quest is one that's spawned repeatedly, so skipping it doesn't mean it's lost forever (although the reward is one unique to the quest [one item per successful quest], but one that's by no means critical).

The Forest Maid quest is a set quest, and I don't know if it can respawn if you fail it. Also, assuming you did go through the steps to get to know how to attract the Forest Maids you have gained the knowledge to do so outside of the scope of the quest. I haven't failed the quest, but I've attracted maids after the quest was finished, so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do it even if you failed the quest by not doing it within the quest timeout (or, for that matter, report back in time).

It is a tedious quest, but not the worst one. It's a matter of searching through all the matching tiles, where you basically have to walk through the tile in coniferous forests, but can zoom in, look around, zoom out in more open terrain.
It can be tricky to do the quest during winter because of the limited number of daylight hours.

If you hate search quests you have a problem, because many of the non trivial ones are search area based. You do have the option to forfeit the quests you don't want, though.

Gameplay questions / Re: Dear fellow hunters..
« on: July 22, 2020, 08:32:20 AM »
I've never had anything escape from either pit traps (never used spikes), or bear traps when my character isn't present when the animal was trapped. When my character was present when the enemy was trapped they've often run straight through it to attack my character (both predators and Njerps), although they've sustained some damage doing so. I've found an occasional empty small deadfall and snare indicating something being trapped and escaping, but nothing bigger (I've had traps apparently looted by predators as well, with feathers left behind).

Gameplay questions / Re: How to learn the latest version of ceremony?
« on: July 21, 2020, 11:46:29 PM »
Well, if it's the quest I think it is, it does involve a ritual, but unfortunately it's one that can't be used outside of the quest.

Treasures tend to be very valuable, so this might be a bit on the good side, but not extreme.

Suggestions / Re: Fire inside warning

So you didn't burn down the whole building? You're lucky ;)

And I fully agree it would be useful with a warning in that case.

You can't improve a finished good to a quality level above that of the input materials (there are some exceptions with "no quality" tags in recipes). All slender trunks you cut are of decent quality, and thus you can't turn them into higher quality items (you can rarely buy fine and masterworks staves, so you can make fine and masterworks javelins out of those, if you're lucky).

There are also cases where the tools hold you back. You can't create masterworks fur and leather with a decent standard knife, but you're capped at fine. To be able to make masterworks you need either a broad knife (the preferred type for hideworking), or a fine knife of any other kind (except stone knives, but I don't think you're going to have any fine stone knife, or if it's even possible to make one).

The values are the net values relative to the baseline (decent), so both rough and crude result in reduced impact, while crude adds a skill penalty on top of that.

Thus, it's your second alternative.

General Discussion / Re: Trouble with wooden walls since 3.63
« on: July 21, 2020, 02:10:20 PM »
See https://www.unrealworld.fi/forums/index.php?topic=5636.0 (a bug report for it). That's probably the best place to see what happens. So far it seems the issue is purely cosmetic, i.e. the sauna works as it should anyway.

General Discussion / Re: New rituals won't unlock?
« on: July 21, 2020, 02:07:57 PM »
Yes, there are several quests that can give you rituals, in particular "hard coded" ones (i.e. where the villager initiates a sequence for gaining a particular ritual). The old method of rituals just appearing has been replaced by the quest based system.

Bug reports / Re: [3.63] Arrows drown in water?
« on: July 21, 2020, 08:33:11 AM »
I'm not sure what the issue is. Do you say that your arrows sink? If that's the case it's not something I've seen (not sure if I've had any arrows land in water in 3.63, though), and it's not something that's been mentioned in the release notes.

If your arrows disappear, do all of the ones hitting the water sink, or is it only some of them (the logic for breaking on impact was changed to keep the broken arrow when hitting an animal, rather than disappearing, so something might have gone wrong there, somehow).

Bug reports / Re: Sauna doesn't hold shutter in place

Have you tried using the sauna for smoking? It ought to reveal if it's "merely" a graphical issue of if it prevents the usage of a sauna stove for smoking altogether (I'm planning to replace my regular stove with a sauna one when winter comes [so I can dry meat instead of smoking it during the upgrade period]).

General Discussion / Re: Is there a hard limit on followers?
« on: July 18, 2020, 09:23:49 AM »
I doubt there's a limit. My issues with taking on robber bands has been to find enough people to recruit (although there was a bug causing former hirelings to never be available for hiring again, since fixed). I've tried to have bands of twice the number of robbers, plus the PC and the dog.

Also note that at some point the time it takes to get more hirelings will get long enough that the first ones hired are starting to leave.
