Suggestions / Re: Focus on Endgame Content
« on: June 08, 2017, 11:59:36 PM »
Has anyone really managed to take a character to 12+ years? I have been playing the same character for almost two years or more IRL and he is only in his 4th winter...
Exactly the right question to ask!
Mine rarely make it through one year.

Suggestions / Re: Confirmation before eating unknown items!

Sometimes unknown mushrooms are just too tempting to pass up  ;)

(Turn off the confirmation for climbing in urw.ini if that's what you would prefer.)

Gameplay questions / Re: Skills damaged by being tired?

I tend to agree with you although I can't prove it, and I hope it's one of those things that is true but Sami will not tell us. Knowing every little internal modifier of the game spoils the fun for me. Just go by what is realistic, I say, and don't dig into all of the workings of the game. This works for me anyhow, and to each his/her own, of course.

Gameplay questions / Re: What skill governs crafted clothing quality?
« on: June 02, 2017, 10:28:26 PM »
And I don't think this is a bad thing, after all we are usually playing 16 year old kids that just left home.
Should we be able to make fine and masterwork items of any type, I wonder?
Perhaps that should be reserved for craftsmen/craftswomen with workshops in villages (and foreign traders).
Maybe more crafts should have quality caps on them...

Suggestions / Re: using "reputation" as currency
« on: June 01, 2017, 03:43:55 AM »
The barter system is one of the great things about this game that helps make it unique.
Why replace it with an abstract numbers-based system like other games have?

There is no currency because in Iron Age Finland there was no currency.
Reputation is already a major influence on bartering.
Guessing and figuring out what to trade is part of the fun!  ;D

Perhaps he was so ecstatic upon receiving the punt that he ascended to heaven.  ;)

Not bugs / Re: Milking with a Full Container
« on: May 30, 2017, 02:17:01 AM »
The bug is that you are trying to milk with a container already full.
Why is this a bug?
Your bucket being full has absolutely no effect on the cow's milk production.
If you pull the teat you get milk and your bucket overflows or like Privateer said,
you squirt it on the cats' faces and everybody is happy.
Why pick the game apart so much for trifles?

Solved'n'fixed bug reports / Re: White screen? anyone?

Works fine for me on XP and always has.  :)
No problem installing it either.  :)
What's so special about Win.10 anyway?  :P

Suggestions / Re: Quality of Life (for the Player) Improvements

1.  Changing this would IMHO be much too unrealistic.

2.  I like this suggestion.

3.  You can already do this by canceling the eating before finished. I call it "tasting" the food.

Did you try the "old hardware mode" option?

// If you've got an older computer and rendering fails you can try enabling old hardware mode.
// This mode uses software rendering and should be used only if absolutely necessary.
// Possible values - YES or NO.

You might also try turning off IDLE ANIMATION to speed it up if the game is slow.

Gameplay questions / Re: Keeping the game fresh
« on: May 24, 2017, 03:57:08 AM »
I always try to play a likeness of myself, and then basically roleplay as myself.  Basically, would you do something in the game that you wouldn't do in real life?

- Are you really a god of combat, stealth, and a master hide-worker?  Specifically?
- Would you deliberately hunt down and kill somebody to take their stuff?
- For that matter, would you really seek out warriors from another culture to fight?
- Would you really gather a whole bunch of people from different villages, arm them with weapons and armor, and go destroy other camps?
- Would you really subsist on a mono-diet knowing how bad for you health that is in real life?  Like mono-dried meat or mono fish, or mono milk?
- For that matter, what kind of allergies do you have in the real world?
- Would you really feed your dogs spoilt meat?  Or try and sell that to others (not sure if you can still do this or not.)
- Would you really build a cabin, by yourself?  Would you really cut down 300 tree's, put them all on a raft secured only with small pieces of cloth you cut from your underwear, and paddle upstream, to a building site so close to the river that it could potentially be flooded?
- Would you really build a trap-fence 10 km long?
- Would you really work your character so hard that they are constantly on the verge of fainting?
- Use the "Oath of Iron" ritual on throwaway weapons?
- Ect, ect.  You get the point.

Basically there's a ton of things you end up doing in the game because they are incredibly favorable or they take out some of the tedium, but they totally wreck the intended balance of the game.  Now, of course, being to strict with those ideas can also lead to a boring or frustrating game, so you should have some leeway if you choose to re-imagine yourself.  Perhaps you from 1,000 years ago would be very talented in something.  You would have to be, or you wouldn't last very long.
Very well said  :)

General Discussion / Re: Luckiest kill?
« on: May 24, 2017, 03:47:00 AM »
Broadheads do cutting damage that is more likely to cause a bleeding wound and they disable or kill faster. However, there are some disadvantages: a) may damage the hide more, especially with multiple hits; b) Not as good against armored people, because clothing & armor are usually more protective against cutting (edge) attacks than piercing (point) attack types.

General Discussion / Migration?
« on: April 25, 2017, 05:08:15 AM »
What will be migrated from the old forum to the new one?

Is this something done as a batch, or selectively, or what?

There is a lot of priceless content that should not be lost.
