Mik left home with few possessions after his mother and father caught a sickness and died.

They had been poor and barely survived the previous winter, during which a pack of wolves
had chased away and then eaten their only remaining reindeer. For you see, as many of the
tribe of the Owl, they had herded the deer. Unlike his friends' parents, Mik's father was not
very skilled and his mother was not an Owl tribe member, so they were never well accepted.

He buried them and mourned until hunger drove him away from their tiny kota.

He wandered until coming to another Owl settlement where he did not recognize anyone.
There he built a small shelter on the edge of the gathering and tried to make friends.

I like to make the rounds of my traps every 2 or 3 days and kick & reset them.
The traps I really have high hopes for, I'll sometimes use the "favorableness" ritual.
Patience and persistence seem to pay off, especially if animals/birds have been seen in the area.

The latest thing was an Elk coming around several days in a row, so I set just one bear deadfall
with about 5 different types of leaves for bait. After minding other business while the Elk continued
to roam around, after a few more days it was caught in that trap. It had walked right past the trap
several times previously. Typically, no fences are used, just randomly scattered traps of several kinds.

Same for me. I have not figured out where they are more likely. Once they start appearing they seem to become more common.

Bug reports / Re: Impossible quest

I have had a similar quest and failed to find the requested herbs after much searching.
Decided to give up. It can be roleplayed as a "test" that the old man gives to the "young one".
The quest could either be refused from the start if you have foreknowledge that makes
you think it would not be possible to complete, or just taken as a failure and learned from.
Seems very realistic to me, especially considering the possibility of gathering the young
leaves and I would like it kept in the game.

I think there are many excellent things that have been added with mods. Of course it would be great if many of them were added to vanilla. I agree. But keeping in mind this game is a labor of love developed by one man (with help from his friends), he has decided there are many other larger improvements that keep the game growing rather than incorporate mod ideas that can continue to be used as mods easily enough. I completely agree with that course of action. There is only so much time in a person's life!

Give modding a try, it's not that bad  :)

A case where you might want to actually handle refueling is the smoking of meat/fish, but you don't want to be tied to your homestead for the rather lengthy process (yes, you can check nearby traps, but hardly perform any quests).
This would be a neat addition for realism.

In which version were the summer and winter furs introduced? I've made my observation in version 3.32.
Possibly to clarify:
The next version past 3.40 will give us differentiated names for summer & winter furs.
However, they have existed in-game for (?) many versions previous to 3.40, I have no idea
when the difference was introduced.

Could we have smoke on the wilderness map from fires that lasts for the duration of the fire, plus a bit longer after it burns out?

Perhaps smoke could attract other humans just like it would in R/L.
