I quit out of the game to write my last post and the game seems to have broke again. It has nothing to do with the steam DRM. I tried the nonsteam version with the same problem.

The bug appears to occur and "fix" itself randomly. An hour after my last post, and the game is working again? This makes me think the problem is associated with a specific process...

Wrong again it seems. The steam overlay thing was just a coincidence. I'm at a loss.  :'(

Figured it out, if a screenshot is taken using the steam overlay (accidentally in my case) the game slows to a crawl. Solution is not accidentally hitting the f12 key  :)

Task manager also shows no undue usage of cpu or other resources.

Frustratingly, this bug is back with a vengeance. This time it arose differently though. I was playing normally. Alt tabbed to adjust my music and when I can back the game was slowed to a crawl, laggy as well. I tried: reinstalling with no mods, restarting pc, doing all possible updates to my system, restarting the game. It persists though all of these.

Tiredness does not effect work quality. Fatigue however does.

I usually just turn off weapon damage entirely. Seeing as there is no way to repair items. I'm not sure how much an axe for example could possibly be damaged by regular use. Seems like a feature that some players might like and others might not. I would probably want it to be optional as it is now if implemented.

When I sacrifice too much to the spirits and get the "you feel unsteady" message, does this decrease the happiness of the spirits, or is it just where the cap is?

I was about to be mean but everyone in this thread has been really constructive so I guess i will be too. A word of advice, games like URW, dwarf fortress, the like are unintuitive, but if you can learn how to play them, the gameplay is out of this world. I hope you do not give up.

I want to say that this cleared itself up. Not sure what the issue was, had a bunch of stuff going on irl and just forgot about this thread. I guess one the intermediate updates fixed the problem.

It's not an AV and there is no reason it would be windows indexing. Everything else on the system runs fine.
