Development News / Re: Blacksmith NPCs and ordering their products
« on: March 06, 2023, 12:43:09 AM »
Excellent news!

How about modding Blacksmiths? Can we add stuff to the list of thing they can forge?
Will they be able to forge pots even if they are from a culture that doesn't usually have pots for trading?

A well known one, Happy People is a four part documentary about trappers living in a remote area:

Here is a playlist I created a long time ago about Reindeer Herding and similar:

Great to hear that Sami!
I guess it must be hard to stay complettly away from the game after all this years.

Sounds like a great adventure Sami!
I did some paddling many years ago with my uncles, all the way down the Uruguay river here in my country, it was a great experience.

Happy birthday Sami, although I'm a month late!
Hope you have some well deserved rest in this coming year and come back with fresh ideas.

Maybe it would be better to have a Discord channel?

Fishing is not specially hard in RL, I did it as a kid.

Out of the scope of this topic, but it might be interesting to add something like having to clean the fish, like you do with animals for meat. And waste of food in both if your cooking skill is low, maybe you have to learn how to butcher certain animals to take full advantage of them. Just brainstorming some ideas with not much thought put to them.

I used to be very active in a History forum, and it had a software that detected if the content was copy pasted from somewhere else, the idea was that you had to write your own stuff and not plagiarize from somewhere. I don't know the name of this software, but it's out there, maybe it could be installed in the forum.
It allowed you to post, but sent a message warning to the admin or mods, so don't know if it would be useful.

Suggestions / Re: Let salt be salt, not preservative
« on: July 23, 2020, 01:13:13 AM »
Salt in modern use is mainly flavor enhancer. (MSG/monosodium glutamate is a salt too)
Pre-refrigeration salt was (still is today) a preservative.
Adding salt to a stew is pretty new invention.
When meat used was already heavy salted, adding any more salt to the food wasn’t needed. Often the salted meat was soaked first to reduce salt.
(Still hoping Sami will change the meat recipes to ask for cuts of meat vs pounds of meat. Then we could use dried meat in stews et cetera)

Using juniper berries, birch leaves, heather, marjoram, nettle and so on has longer history in cooking than salt as flavor enhancer /seasoning.

You can mod thee recipes to ask for dried meat.

If you are on a raft, companions and animals are treated as being in the raft with you. Might be a bug as mentioned before.

Where you swimming? Maybe he was just a bit too tired, or he took a bit longer and the cold was too much, don't really know if these things are tracked tough, they seem pretty happy to run around in their undergarments in winter with no problem.

Would love to have the game in full screen, no need to rewrite the whole GUI.
