General Discussion / Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World?
« on: March 22, 2021, 07:57:43 AM »
I've been trying winter starts with the Hurt, Helpless and Afraid scenario and, after a few characters froze to death and one got boar'd, I've managed to get a character past the worst of winter. I started out far enough south that I was able to make a stone axe and a shovel before the ground was too frozen to dig. Trading my knife for a fishing rod kept me fed which I waited for my injuries to heal, and the stone knife works well enough for now. Recently my pit traps paid off and have bagged me a forest reindeer and a small elk which means I'm warm enough to step away from the fire and I've used to extra elk cuts to trade for a woodsman's axe. It was an important trade as the stone axe wouldn't cut it when it came to splitting boards to make skis. Just before I logged off I found the shelter of a wounded adventurer complete with the bear he warned me about and a bonus lynx prowling around, so hopefully the hastily assembled bear deadfall trap will pay off...

Development News / Re: Happy New Year

Happy New Year all, hopefully this go around works out better than the last.

And special thanks to Sami and Enormous Elk. I've just got back into UrW after a good few years without venturing into the far north and I've been pleasantly surprised by some of the changes I've noticed.

I just got back into Unreal World yesterday after a few years off and on creating a new character I noticed that skills which were at 0% could have 2 skills points applied to them. I'm not sure if it applies to all skills, but it worked for both Agriculture and, I think, timbercraft. Unfortunately I didn't take any screenshots but here is how it worked:

A skill is at 0%

1 skill point is applied to it, boosting it to around 10% and turning the associated letter red - it cannot be boosted further at this point.

That skill point is removed, bringing it back down to 0%

That skill can now have 2 skills points spent on it, but the letter won't change colour until the 2nd one is applied.

This means a skill which starts at 0% can be brought up to around 25-30%, although at the cost of 2 skill points.
