You may be talking about bulls but you ain't talking no bull!. My current survivor Captain Kaumolainen has two big bull buddy's called Cupboard and Trucker. They're a serious storage option that doubles as a meat shield in a pinch. You can even successfully sneak with bulls for some strange reason. I may be remembering this wrong I believe a normal bull can carry a tree trunk too. I've used bulls to travel around camp and then down river with a raft gathering trunks and stones near the shore for a more ecological way of building a hut. Also doubles as a way of scouting the area and finding game. Bulls are expensive but killing a couple of Njerpez will likely bag you enough riches for a big bull.

Gameplay questions / Re: Is this an exploit or game mechanic?

Personally I don't consider the overweight thing an exploit since you can't walk anywhere when overloaded. Being able to easily get rich making boards definitely is an exploit though, as other wooden items like bowls and cups aren't worth nearly so much.

Gameplay questions / Re: Killing Foreign Traders
« on: August 13, 2018, 07:01:26 PM »
Gotta agree with Shorun here. You were very lucky. Foreign traders are usually very well armed and travel in groups of 4 or 5. If one gets behind you you're generally a goner. The only way I know of reliably killing them is by having a cow for a meat shield and finding a spot where the trees create a tunnel with no gap at the back, then spamming them with arrows. Even then if one has a crossbow it gets risky. If they can't get behind you mowing them down with a battle axe can also work if you're well armoured. Though I don't bother killing them anymore anyway. Once you've killed a group of them you'll be a nasty bandit, and so very rich the game will lose it's challenge.  The fairplay (and fun) way of getting rich from killing NPC's is going to Njerpez areas with a pack of dogs and a partner or two. There will be bloodshed and adventure. 8)

Suggestions / How about Scurvy?

Might be an interesting addition the survival element if you can catch scurvy or even other deficiencies from not eating any fruits or vegetation for a month or two. As it stands IMO there's not much motivation to gather veg and berries if you have plenty of meat.

Suggestions / Spell Giving Quests
« on: August 12, 2018, 09:51:59 PM »
I consider myself a veteran of this game after 6 years of roaming the deep forest, but I can't for the life of me seem to get a spell giving quest after a long time trying.
I wonder if it might be better if you could get them from Shamans by getting to know them well, or by using spells and magic means a certain number of times.
I feel like the magic overhaul is in essence improvement, as it was too easy to please the spirits before by spamming sacrifices. It just feels like the balance has gone the other way now, as new spells and incantations seem impossible to get, and the spirits all hate me despite my daily sacrifices. It's getting frustrating.

Please have mercy on me oh Mighty spirits. I will sacrifice my trusty masterwork longbow in your honor if you can tell me how to get new spells.

I've been into this game on and off for about 6 years now. I remember hearing about roguelike games on some article or other, and thought i'd like to give one a try. I think I sort of stumbled onto this one after googling roguelike. It took me about a week to properly learn the interface, and even longer before I wasn't just randomly dying after a few days of starving. Amazing how Sami and friends have packed so much depth into something so graphically simple. The only other game i've i've kept returning to like this one is Civilization 3. I feel like the two games are comparable in terms of pure depth of gameplay.

Great Idea but sounds complex to implement properly. I feel like quests need tweaking a bit first. It's utterly mysterious to me how you get a quest that gives you a new incantation and I know the game pretty well. Maybe give a higher chance of getting a spell recieving quest or have shamans give them for getting to know them well. They just seem almost impossible to come by as it is. Also, carpentry seems way too slow to improve compared to other skills. Not just mindlessly complaining, as I love this game and understand it must be time consuming to code with only one or two on the job. Keep up the great work.
