Curing isn't really worth it unless you plan on turning it into leather. It really doesn't take all that long to tan the hide, even bigger ones only really take a day and a half to finish or so. It just takes a few hours on some of the steps.

I'd say Kaumo spear is better in general, but if you want to use a shield the masterwork spear is probably a better choice.

I usually hunt at the same time as I explore, and when I get a kill I skin it and butcher it, tan the skin somewhere central where I can explore in a circle around while waiting for it to finish if I don't have anything else to do, and otherwise cook the meat to trade to villages I find except for a small amount to eat for myself. And I'd probably end up trying to butcher all the carcasses but most likely it would end up being pointless where I won't be able to cook the meat fast enough for the uncooked meat to not start going stale where it is pointless to keep cooking it because it's not worth anything and I won't be able to eat that much anyways. And ofcourse carrying that much meat is impossible. So realistically I might end up butchering two of the carcasses, tanning the hides, keeping maybe two or 3 dozen cuts for me and my two dogs and trading the rest for arrows or hides.

I think they do, I have afterall gotten the message that the forest looks extremely hostile after killing a wandering adventurer. But maybe that was coincidence.

But I don't recall the spirits getting angered for me killing robbers before they make demands.

Never seen a group of 4, I've seen most of the time groups of 6 and sometimes groups of 5 or 7, and I've killed groups of all those sizes, with heavy metal gear and without, aswell as groups that have had crossbows and with heavy armor worn by them. Personally I'd say the most dangerous of them seem to be those with swords rather than crossbows though.

Others have already talked about hunting, and I would generally agree, though I wouldn't say it's unrealiable for getting food, just that it takes a long time. I think it's actually a very viable way to get food reliably, you're just unlikely to ever have time for things like building and crafting much if you have no other food source, atleast early on. So generally early on hunting is mainly only useful for getting furs/leather for clothing or trading to foreign traders, and the first few big animals you kill will ofcourse let you get your first tools quite easily through selling most of the meat that you won't be able to eat anyways. Later on though you'll have an overabundance of cords and rope, and a home, so you can dry or smoke most of the meat and then put it in a cellar once it's done, and then eat that when you are building or crafting and you'll only need to hunt one big animal every now and then to have a consistent supply of food.

Others have also already talked about some hunting tips, I'd also recommend to carry a fishing rod with you on your hunting trips though, it doesn't weigh a lot, and if you don't find an animal or fail to catch one it's good for getting you food to continue traveling or return home. And you don't need to carry a lot of food with you this way, and can instead carry a small amount of food and a fishing rod. You will also get a fishing rod easily through the "Living in the wild" game course, aswell as some other items later on which will take a bit longer to get to. And as mentioned before the Fisherman start will also give you two nets for passive fishing (aswell as a fishing rod). Here I'd say starting in spring also helps, since early on the ice will still be strong enough to carry you, so you can just walk out on the ice a little ways, and then make a hole and set the nets, or alternatively, an even better choice is finding someplace with rapids and walking out on the ice next to it and setting the nets in the rapids. That way you can make use of the nets before you have a punt or raft.

Personally I don't mind that some items can't be repaired, certainly it would be nice to be able to repair wool clothing (especially the rare ones like socks) but I think it's also somewhat nice that you have to keep looking for these things and get some spares. And ofcourse metal armor might be a bit beyond the possibilities of a lone wanderer to repair, especially since the tribes don't seem to actually make it themselves as far as I'm aware.

And either way, a small scratch from falling off a tree won't affect the clothings stats, atleast not noticeably. I also find that if you have good armor that blocks the damage you take, the armor actually doesn't really get damaged at all, so once you get metal armor it's actually pretty tough to lose durability on it, much less any wool or linen clothing underneath. And really, full fur clothing is the best clothing :P, with some extra additions like wool/linen mittens/socks/cowls and leather boots, and a leather belt for style.

Is it just me or are foreign traders actually really easy to just murder? My usual hunting gear is bear furs, leather boots, leather belt, wool mittens, wool cowl and now wool socks after looting them from a trade group I murdered. And if I am wearing this setup I can easily kill them still with my javelins and kaumolais spear, I usually seem to take about 20% injury total but all minor injuries and still manage to kill all of them, the biggest issue here being the heavy loss of durability for the overcoat/cloak and shirt that comes with taking hits that penetrate them.

But if I am wearing full mail and iron gear, atleast to the extent that I have pieces for, which after murdering groups of traders is pretty much all pieces I will take no injuries at all or only very very marginal ones to any spots which still have slightly less protection. And the armor doesn't even degrade since hits that don't penetrate don't seem to really reduce durability at all.

I thought they would be more of a challenge to be honest. And I don't know if they will tell all other traders about you if you fail to kill them to the last, but so far that hasn't been a challenge either, since they sometimes seem to flee for a bit but then return just in time to be the only person left and then they just die anyways. I'm considering just donning my mail from now on while going out into the wild so I can simply murder any group I come upon without even taking any damage to anything.

Also I usually fight them by opening with a point blank or close to point blank javelin to the head of the guy I consider the largest threat (Usually this insta-kills or close to it) and then just hitting them and counterstriking at every oppurtunity until it's a 2v1 or maybe 1v1 when I will start to dodge since usually at that point I'll also be slightly fatigued and also won't need to hurry and kill them anymore. If one falls unconscious I hit them in the head once to almost guaranteed finish them off so they don't stand up again and bother me anymore, unless some other trader is too much of a priority. Early on I focus solely on attacking their heads, both when attacking and when counter-attacking, while I then start hitting their bodies on counter-strikes once I become a bit fatigued until I don't counterstrike anymore. Unless ofcourse they have heavy armor in those spots in which case I might target arms or legs instead or body if they have an iron helm or something.

I mean I understand why it's like this, it would be far too easy to steal from villages if you could just sneak in. But it's also just really annoying that it's impossible to sneak into villages.

Oh yeah, you reminded me of things like berries, which seem to not stack if they weren't in a group or something. Like you'll have 200 lingonberries from the lingonberry patches behind your hut and then you'll have 100 lingonberries from the patches across the river and they won't stack.

Occasionaly items that are usually stackable refuse to stack for me for no reason that I can see. For example I have 2 different stacks of decent squirrel furs, 3 stacks of arrows and probably some other things aswell. And I'm quite sure that it's not some kind of stack limit, since I previously had 5 fine squirrel furs in one stack but then 4 normal squirrel furs in one stack with a single squirrel fur in a second stack. And if it was a stack limit I wouldn't have 1 stack of 188 arrows, 1 stack of 34 arrows and a third of 8 arrows.

I think it seems to happen once you reach the message for inventory where it tells you that you have too many items and can't pick up anymore/items will be automatically dropped. That might be what bugs these stacks out but I'm not sure.

You need to sacrifice something every day, even on days that you don't fish. Catch 2 perches and a pike? Sacrifice a perch, roast the pike, eat the pike and sacrifice the other perch tomorrow and so on. Doesn't seem to matter what you sacrifice, roaches seem to work just as well as salmon. As is the case for the forest spirits where berries seem to work as well as big game fat.

I can't really do any of that though if they immediatly chase me off XD. Either way it doesn't matter anymore since I tried going to them and seeing if maybe offering gifts would help, but they chased me off and then quite quickly became aggressive and I couldn't get away so I was forced to fight. I managed to kill all the adventurers, woodsman and a few craftsmen and peasants + one old man. Then the swarm of kids and women came and I got killed since I was already blind in one eye pretty much and quite wounded.

So I'm new and decided to try stealing something from a village, I didn't manage to successfully do it and ended up dropping it after some craftsman caught up to me, but now all nearby villages seem to hate me and I'm wondering if all villages of that culture will hate me and if there is any way to repair my relations with them?
