Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World? This morning, I slipped and fell on the ice, bruised my knee, and broke my phone screen. This was after several minutes of wandering lost-ish in the cold.

Then my URW character fell out of a tree. Now she has to crawl through the snow, and she's woefully underdressed for the weather. Suddenly, my morning doesn't seem so bad.

Thankfully, I finished my cabin in time for winter, though I think I've angered the forest spirits with all my tree-chopping. I've seen almost no wildlife for months, besides a brief period of bird migration. My traps are empty. Food isn't a problem (I catch plenty of fish), but clothing... now that Dead month is here, my linen trousers, woolen undershirt, and birch-bark shoes and cap aren't nearly sufficient.

I wonder if it'd be worth using part of my shirt to make a pair of mittens (I have Rain's clothing mod). Though apparently I'm unable to do that while injured. Oh well. For now, I guess I'll hunker down, keep fishing, and sacrifice herbs daily hoping to appease the spirits.

EDIT: Trapped a squirrel just after posting this. Fancy that! Between that and the hare furs I recently bought, I can finally make myself some mittens!

Re: Cave Dwelling Question no. add a door and a fireplace and you're good to smoke  8)

do not build on "surface of the earth" or you'll destroy the natural light near the entrance of the cave

Re: Cave Dwelling Question Built ceiling/floor will illuminate the square so near the SotE square no change. Deeper the inside squares will be lit. I don't know if the actual graphic is different at all.

Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World? I feel like I’m robbing the villages when I dump off the Njerpez scimitars I keep finding in the woods and mires.
So many furs. So many punts. So many axes and knives.
So many bags of grains and flour.

Funny enough, my new character is aiming to do 1) farming 2) home guard vs Njerpez 3) some trapping for feathers. Yet half the time doing trap line runs (it’s middle of Dead Month/November) I keep getting Red Invaders, not grouse. And even my traps on this character, seem to be getting as many hares as birds. Some bunnies keep running in the traps baited with berries.

Did a side tour to a cave about day’s walk from homestead, now that there’s light dusting of snow. (I’ll post about that in the morning with screen shots)

Joined the discord, but there's no way for me to post anywhere. Is there something I need to do to "become a Follower"?

Joining the Discord is essentially the same as becoming a Follower - ie. you can read the posts to follow the development. To gain write rights one needs to become a Backer. I'm sorry if my explanation has been too vague!

Re: Ancient Savo : A new Enormous Elk game in the making At Discord on channel "Development" I posted on 7th of January:

"
5. A lot of stuff (like UI texts, and terrain type information) are stored in XML-formatted text files. Easy to localize. Easy to mod. Although, the early development versions won't support reading data from custom files, so the full modding potential will be unlocked later on.
"

If possible, I try to put almost everything (tasks, actions, accidents etc) in XML files so that the project could double as an "homesteading-survival-game-engine". But in case some of the modding features seem to slow to implement, that is something I might consider sacrificing for the sake of having the project finished in a reasonable time.

So, if unsure, the safest option is just to calmly follow the development news on Discord, and then make a decision to donate if it really starts to feel like that. Or just wait until the project reaches early-access stage.

Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World? Moment of silliness:
Eagle owl hits capercaillie

(Didn't have anything on me except sword, broad knife, waterskin and the recently killed bird to chuck at the capercaillie.. the spot was too good to go scrounge for sticks or rocks)

Re: Do Plants Spoil? I've got lake reed plants that have been in my cellar for 4 game years that are yet unspoiled. Likewise, I have threshed herbs that old that are unspoiled, too.

In fact, I've never had anything but meat, berries, flour, and skins that spoiled over time.

Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World? No way. Exactly right game. Just need to put in a suggestion for ability to lodge some visitors. Stay a night, get a cut of elk with flatty (rye or barley, lakereed or bogbean if harvest was poor.)
Hire that chatty and energetic maiden from nearby village to run the “front desk” and that simple, yet courteous, tribesman to serve dinner and buzz the tables after.

Re: [3.63 - steam] Base walking speed lowered It's figured it out now. There's remnant of old code in mobility checks which assumes there's snow on the ground based the date rather than the actual snow depth data.
That's likely the cause, false snow penalty. Will be fixed.
