Drawings of my travels in UnReal. HI,

I didn't know where or how to post this, so it's going here.

Last Inktober 2016 I did a series of drawings, and from the 16th October to the 23rd they are inspired by UnReal World and a few characters I was playing with then.

Re: Other roguelikes I tried The Long Dark in early access because I thought it would scratch my post-apocalyptic itch, but didn't like it.  Too much hopping from fire to fire, spending most of your time playing it safe and keeping warm, not enough time ransacking abandoned cars and old cabins.  In the real world, hunter-gathers spend about two hours a day on survival.  The busy-work stuff that most so-called "survival" games force you to do against unrealistic countdown timers is irritating to me.  Just plunk me somewhere with no time limits and tell me to survive and I'll be happy as a pig in shit.  It's why I enjoy playing URW; if I want to take a day off to go exploring or hunt squirrels or find out where this river leads, I can, and the trap line and fishing nets can wait until tomorrow.

Rid of the crash related creature and item losses We're clearing bugs away from the path of a stable tag, which is shining in the horizon and to be attached to 3.50beta version soon enough.  Lately I've tried to find ways to improve crash security to overcome creature and item losses when travelling with companions and watercrafts. Not a frequent issue, but a real annoyance if it might happen to you.
And now I think a reliable and fast way to get rid of this legacy issue has been found, and will be put to effect in the next patch.

There's now extra data save added upon each map load to provide crash security and to minimize certain creature and item loss potential. Previously it was quite often the case that the pets and companions you were travelling with would disappear upon a crash. The same sort of crash related disappearence might also happen to the items you were transporting with a watercraft - including the watercraft. This sort of losses should be history now. Crashes may naturally lose some progress in the game world, but all the creatures and items should stay intact and be available upon returning to post-crash UnReal World.

This is a future feature, not yet functional in 3.50 beta version.

Its underrated. You can shoot yourself with a metamorph wand and become something else, o drink some crazy potion you mix with weird result. Wishing, cartography, refill potions in a dimension with pools, dry rivers and seas with a scroll of wonders...
I think is maybe the best before I meet URW.

Re: Probably the stupidest thing I’ve done in game. Aw.  FYI, there's a new option in 3.50beta that will prevent such things from happening:

        If the option is enabled a confirmation prompt appears if you try to butcher a carcass before skinning it.
        This is to avoid accidentally cutting up the whole carcass and losing the skin.

        To enable the option add the following line to urw_ini.txt setup file in your installation folder:
        [BUTCHER_CONFIRMATION:YES]

I should remember to go turn that on; I've done the same thing with hides before, although never with a bear fur!

Re: Other roguelikes I've been playing roguelikes since... 2012? So I found out about them when I saw Dwarf Fortress in the MOMA in 2009 when I was twenty, and I discovered them after that.

I tried most of the big ones and have stuck to 4 in particular, Dwarf Fortress, Caves of Qud, UnReal and Stone Soup.

I also play Infra Arcana sometimes, and follow roguebasin for new ones.

One I regret that it was never finished is Aliens RL, really good take on the Aliens universe. I also liked Prospector a lot, but I hate the interface and that stopped me from playing.

As someone who didn't grow up with ASCII, I have to say that my biggest complaint is not ASCII at all, which I like sometimes, but terrible pixel graphics which some games have in its stead. Finally , I also like Sword of the Stars the Pit, cause of the sci fi and good graphics.

Re: Other roguelikes I always come back to Urw, C:DDA, and Rimworld (not exactly an RL, similar to DF). I'll play adom, brogue, and FTL once in a while, as well. ToME used to be awesome, not so much now.

Re: Other roguelikes has anybody ever played NeoScavenger?  I would say it's the game most similar to Unreal World.  It's at least theoretically based on real-world urban survival concepts.  Features a very robust crafting system, illnesses, starvation, cold, penalties for everything from injured hands to wearing ill-fitting shoes, and a combat system based on real-world combat.  it takes place in a post-apocalyptic futuristic version of Michigan, where your character awakes helpless from cryogenic freezing.  I recommend checking it out if you're into militaristic survivalism, it's not quite as interesting to me as unreal world but it also has very healthy modding community & infrastructure that produce a lot of cool stuff.
