Re: [3.61, Windows 10] Items are no longer showing as unpaid when I pick them up
So save your progress as it is now, and send it over and I'll take a look. Pause the playing until you get reply back from me.
I feel like your time is surely better spent working on the next release than repairing my games. I'll send them over, but if you're fairly confident that the next release will fully address the issue, then I'm probably better off just not playing until then. Especially since your last repair only gave me maybe 4 or 5 hours of restored gameplay before the problem reappeared.

I downloaded 7-Zip, it can create a file either with the extension .7z or with .zip. The .7z file seems about 25% smaller. Is that what you'd prefer to receive? I'll just send you the .zip for now since I know you'll be able to work with that one.

Got the saves, and sent them back already. Any archives, .zip or .7z or many others is fine by me.

And yes, I'm fairly confident the next release addresses this issue. Although if the adjustments still fail for one out of 10,000 players the fairly confident turns into frustration for that individual. That's why it's important to double-check, which just happened with these recent saves. I simply loaded them up in version-in-development and adjusted maintenance routines easily freed maps again now - so it's an indication that the routines can handle these saves.
However, we still can't know the hours of restored gameplay for you after this. It depends. But I don't mind triple-checking if you end up in frequenting maintenance again - it makes only that "fairly confident" even more confident.

Re: Various questions from a new player There shouldn't be any penalty for using stale fat or a mix of fat and bark. I can't remember if spoiled fat works. If you use the fat from the animal you can reduce penalties to 0. If you use bark, 99.9% of the time if you'll get at least a 1% penalty since the unused will be in your inventory.

Repairing clothing doesn't degrade quality, it will remain masterwork. You can use any fur to repair fur clothes, no penalty for quality either. However, if you use enough of one type of fur to repair the clothes, it can take on the properties of the fur type you used. For example, when I get masterwork fur clothes I like to use a little more than 1/2 for bandage/cords and then repair with bear fur. I then have masterwork bear fur clothes with additional pierce protection, even though the clothes won't say "bear fur."

Pausable digging and filling up pits We're wrapping up version 3.62.
A trusty small patch with about half a dozen additions and dozen of fixes.
It's just around the corner.
Of the latest additions digging and filling up pits are now made pausable, so you can stop these shoveling processes at will and continue later on by [a]pplying your shovel again.

Now it only takes some building, packaging and testing and hopefully the next week will be the release week.

Re: Various questions from a new player It's up to you to decide what you think is an exploit, but I use that tactic when I can. I also try to get my opponent (whether human or animal) to tire themselves into the Breathless state before engaging them. UrW is unforgiving, and once a creature is injured its ability to both defend and attack quickly decreases, which means getting injured can quickly result in getting killed.

Re: Various questions from a new player
I have a question about whether you'd consider something an exploit or not. It's a tactic I used to complete a quest:

Spoiler: show
Do you consider it an exploit to kill humans (robbers, njerps, etc.) from a punt with a bow and arrow while they flail around in the water? If you want to see the specific example I'm referring to, it's in episode 120 of my YouTube series here: https://youtu.be/8qGHD7BKk0w?t=3264

For me, it would depend...
1. If I lured the man into the water by taking advantage of an AI shortcoming for example, then it's an exploit.
2. If I wandered into the area and found the man already flailing in the water, cruel yes, exploit no.

Village dogs It’d be great if PC could Chat or /Command/ village dogs to “move over”.
Of course only when the dogs aren’t aggressive.
People in the villages move over. Why not their dogs?

Re: Village Women Trading Too! Well if it suits everybody else...  But I don't know how I'd feel about buying village women.

Re: Various questions from a new player There's a fixed number of item stacks the PC can carry, and there are similar, but much lower, limits for craft, animals, and companions. There is not a limit for dropped item stacks on a time, as far as I know, although there is a limit to the number of items that's allowed in the "vicinity" (something like 3 * 3 or 5 * 5 world tiles) numbering a number of thousand. Note that this number includes the stacks in built structures such as walls, fences, etc., so a fence might consist of two stacks of 1 withe each and 2 stacks of stakes (where the 2 different stacks comes from two different levels of quality), resulting in a "cost" of 4 stacks.

Re: Quick and Dirty Character Creation Guide for new players Thanks for making it simple but well explained! Some videos I've seen either go on too long for no reason, or don't explain it enough. Even as a seasoned player I didn't know what the stats like agility rolled for, and I could relate to having to keep randomizing that start location  ;D I've subscribed

Re: turnip seeds Yup. Turnips, such as those the villagers have in stacks in their houses, will be seen in the 'Food' category. Turnips harvested from a garden/crop, by using the Harvest action, will be seen in the 'Plants' category. These latter must be threshed, which results in an equal amount of turnips and seeds.
