Just wanted to share this, was able to generate an image of the game map from data and save it to file, kind of neat to look at.
Thanks for sharing this. Agreed, pretty neat. Opens up a lot of external possibilities.

In your embedded screenshot, it appears, this completely bypasses the fog of war (FoW), is that bypass, mandatory by nature or optional?
Did you create any open source code on this or alternatively is there any public information/writing on your experiment?

According to URW Fandom Wiki - [Playing With UrW Files], WORLD.PLM contains the map with fog of war included.

Possibly in memory somewhere as well.


Also note, completely possible to render the full map tiles (hence storing the file paths). Was working on a prototype in the old URWCharacterMenu, which was more or less a successful proof of concept. -- tried to find an old picture of it, but couldn't :(.



edit: Oh also something i forgot to mention; I get the tile ID's/Path info from debug_ter-tiles.txt, located in the URW folder while you're playing.

they hit me for once or twice, but it seems that tree trunk has no missile damage, so I was fine hit by an over 200kg late-iron age missile. ;D

Well, were you doing particularly good in battle, just before this happened? If so, perhaps it is a new feature?

A new algorithm quietly slipped into the 3.72-patch#3 as a limited-time easter egg, for detecting players in the 99th percentile by the in-game battle performance & showering them with this unique compliment, some sort of flower bouquet (with the known limitations of the climate & season), same day air delivered by friends from eastern lands in their lovely Christmas attire and spirit.

Maybe it is meant to be taken not as a bug but as a testament to the bravery, skill in combat, and the indomitable spirit of honoured recipient  ;)


To be honest, the battle was surely smooth. 1 of those 3 Njerpez warriors died at the very beginning due to an arrow piercing his eye, which I didn't even expect to hit him. I kited the other 2 after they are fatigued and shot them. even when I missed the one I aimed at, the arrow always hit the other. I don't know if I performed a good battle, but I'm sure that I was really lucky. ;D
This new easter egg is really great. even if it's a bug, it's an interesting one and I'll feel some regret for it being fixed. by the way I also experienced out-of-arrow foreign traders shooting branches and rocks at me. but tree trunks really surprised me at start.

Re: Hemp cord experiment You can make cordage from hemp in UrW. The process is the same as with other fibre plants (nettle and flax).

Just take a look at TEXTILECRAFT entry in game encyclopedia (F1).
You can spin fibres into yarn, yarns into cords, and finally cords into ropes, if you like to.

Re: Ancient Savo private beta available for UrW players This project is pretty much alive and progressing. Today's private beta version is 12, at the moment available only for you - the UnReal World players.

Lately the development has been mostly about improving the UI, and fixing fatal bugs found by the test players. Ah, and also implementing many of the suggestions by the test crew. Before going to public beta I'd still like to add ways to interact with your clan other families (once some of your kids get adult and you send them to start new homesteads). At the moment it is so that when they fly out of the nest they are on their own (or, optionally, you continue playing as the young family). I'd like there to be an option to visit and to exchange with your other families - and that will require some AI to determine what the other families have been up to while you have been busy playing our main family - which areas of forest they have turned to fields, have they built new buildings, what new tools they have crafted etc. Hard to say, at least two or three weeks of coding, depending on how much I'm stuck at my main work earning money.

Well, yeah - but we are approaching the first public launch, so if you wish to join the test crew, I'd guess this is a good time to do it. We have versions for Windows and Mac, and then a generic version which should run on any desktop machine which has Java 8 or higher installed.

When having ran out of arrows, in some conditions NPCs still decided to keep wielding their bow.
And as they now kept shooting their bows the actual arrows were replaced with quite random items.

Fixed - persists in 3.72-patch #2

Enhanced Soundtrack to be released this month In February 2023 we're releasing UnReal World Enhanced Soundtrack containing the game musics plus three selected spin-off hit songs.
The soundtrack will be released on Steam, Bandcamp and likely also on Itch.io.

Those who have followed the game for years or decades are aware of our many spin-off creations, which also include primitive and traditional music.
UnReal World game musics are performed and created by the devs themselves, and most of the musics we hear in the game are selected sections of longer tracks.
Some of these songs have been released along the way independently, and are now re-mastered and collected together on this enhanced soundtrack.

One of the spin-off songs to be featured is a musical piece currently in progress to be premiered on this very soundtrack.

Re: tree trunk spawns in inventory after fishing Yay! With the help of the savegame provided by Kreivos this issue is now found and fixed.
The bug was caused by unintended inventory re-ordering when the bait was all used up.
Even though this bug was noticed in relation to rod fishing the faulty mechanics may have caused some other rare item appearance oddities as well.
We are quite hopeful that the fix will address these issues too.

Fixed - persists in 3.72.2
