Seasonal sales and Kekri customs Harvest festival sales are on at Steam and Itch.io -- and in the Far North we do celbrate Kekri.
So let the new adventurers be respected with the discount, and the ancestral spirits with our special Kekri costumes and customs...

During this festivity period you can grab the game for decent discount on Steam, or from Itch.io.

It's Kekri, not halloween, in the Far North.

Kekri is an ancient Finnish harvest festival celebrated in the fall when the annual agricultural activities were all accomplished and the harvest collected. Kekri meant the end of the crop year, which was a big turning point. It was the time when the souls and spirits of the dead wandered around and visited the living. The ancestors were respected and welcomed. Sauna was heated up for them, and meal prepared too. The living celebrated accordingly, and so do we.

Kekri Goat

Kekri time included tradition of Kekripukki (Kekri goat) figure. People would dress up as horned creatures, wearing furs or coats upside down, and went around in their disguises and were offered food and drink.
So, what does a decent developer of tradition rich game do to follow the tradition?
Yes. He dresses up as Kekripukki.

We wish you happy and haunting Kekri time, or Halloween - if that suits you better.
Celebrate and participate!

Thank you, URW! It's been about a year since I first played URW.This game .. Oh.. I Think it did a lot for me.She signed my interest in history, and now I'm thinking about connecting my life with it.I became more interested in nature, trips to the village began to bring pleasure, even while working.I am immensely grateful to the developers for creating and still developing this game.As a 15-year-old I enjoy spending my evenings building my cabin, or hunting elk, thank You! Re: Crowdfunding : your thoughts? And here is a blog post which focuses mainly on my personal thoughts and feelings on preparing for the side-project. It also contains a little on the actual game idea.

I feel that once the campaign starts the focus of feedback and communications is most likely going to be in the actual game and coding-related stuff. So, before that phase I felt like writing a more personal post, going through the psychological stuff which anyway affects everything we human beings do or don't do. Hence this blog post.

And thank you for all the feedback and ideas for Indiegogo Perks. I think I have found a way to fit MrMotorhead's suggestion neatly into the planned project. But more of that kind of stuff once the Indiegogo campaign is ready to launch. In the meantime, feel free to post further suggestions, to send negative or positive feedback the way you find it.

Small scale primitive smoker I think a primitive small scale tipi type smoker would make a great addition to the game. Smoking doesn't really demand a huge building unless one smokes huge amounts of stuff. So maybe a small structure from three slender tree trunks, a large hide, some tying equipment and branches where one could smoke smaller quantities of meats?

Re: Small scale primitive smoker Agreed!

One of my characters just spent about 3 weeks game time to cut enough logs and build a cabin of the minimum size for a fireplace and a single extra tile to use for smoking. And by then the reindeer herd had left the area...

Primitive cultures definitely had portable alternatives to smoking meat. I think the latest update requiring a fire every day should still hold true. I could see perhaps a compromise where meat smoked in a more portable smoker takes less time to cure but has a shorter preservation period, perhaps just a month or two? This would help adapt to a more nomadic play style where we could have our characters hunt and preserve meat on the go for a portable stash of food that's used quickly rather than a full winter supply for someone hunkering in a cabin.

Here's an example from the Sami, looks like a sort of reindeer salami, that was smoked in a kota or even kept in a special container that allowed controlled fermentation: https://www.fondazioneslowfood.com/en/slow-food-presidia/sami-cured-reindeer-meat/

Re: Crowdfunding : your thoughts? Hear ye, hear ye all of you naysaying nonbelievers and the rest of the fair unreal world wanderers. When a man who steadily delivered rock solid content for good 20 years tells you he'll do good on his promises and will deliver again - you listen. The right thing to do would be to say "Great stuff, more content from one of the most reliable devs in the gaming world, how can we help?" Anything else is blaspheming nonsense. And what do we do with blasphemers in the iron age? Anyone?

Come on guys, its Erkka we are talking about. Not just some kid who learned to code "hello world" and thinks himself a game developer who can start a crowdfunding campaign to make animated kittens. Its in our best interest to not only support this endeavor personally, but to spread the word. I mean did anyone hear of someone even remotely as dedicated as Erkka or Sami? In the whole bloody gaming world I can think of only two names - Tarn and Zach Adams. Thats it. So spread the word and give them your money. Or give them your money and then spread the word. That part is up you  ;)

P.S. I am sure we'll hear no more of this naysaying, but I'll go prepare a few stakes and gather some firewood. You know, just in case :P

Re: Crowdfunding : your thoughts? ... as for dark ages Finnish blasphemers... do absolutely nothing... spirits would correct their ways, there’d be no reason for folks to intervene.
If you’ve done “bird thief quest” you’ll know the attitude going against someone else: they might even put a spell on you. Better to keep to yourself.

Imminent death warnings Rip Asllat. He had just completed his sauna and wanted to learn to swin (0%). Although I know how swimming skill works and should've been more careful, he drowned in just a few turns before I realized he was in danger. Oh the irony ;D

Another, a close call, was during winter when it was cold below game thermometer. Ásllat was sweating, wearing all fur he could make (of elk and reindeer), so I really didn't expect him to be freezing to death while taking a little stroll (<40 meters) outside his kota fire.

Both of these were numb-brained player mistakes. I wasn't paying attention / expecting so sudden danger.

I'm not all too bothered myself, but I do think that because of permadeath (written in icy characters, muahhahah) people can lose a hard-worked-for character a bit too easily. I've actually killed characters off by quitting and not saving when trying to quaff (make hole in the ice? 'yes', then drink) with rapid keypresses and some late-night carelessness and fumbling: Boom! Gone.

So I suggest:

- freezing to death to actually blink continuously when it's on - isn't so disturbing because rarely is 'on' at least for long  :D
- have warning sound effect/pause when freezing (shivering female/male voice would fit here nicely)
- have warning sound effect/pause when freezing to death (intense shivering female/male voice would fit here nicely)
- have sound effect/pause when danger of drowning (gurgling female/male voice would fit here nicely)
- 'q' is a bit too often used a command for both drinking and 'Q'uitting, imho. I use 'Esc' anyways to leave game so I rarely even 'Q'uit.

Maybe have them toggleable in the ini-file

Re: Small scale primitive smoker Taking development time into account,

why not just allow smoking in kota insides and doorways (because there is no inside in the smallest one)

or, better yet, allow smoking/drying in all kota squares and make the walls accessible by crawling. I could see crawling under kota walls useful in other situations too.

With possibly the requirement (when smoking) to have a complete kota. (then it can take more time than the cabin, though)
