Village Food Status and Charity (both ways) I understand the most recent update adds the option for villagers to refuse excess food goods in trades if their village is well stocked.

This brought me to a new idea that villagers' food stocks could naturally fluctuate and lead to different relationships or even "mini quests" in the process.

If the village has plenty of food and the PC is starving and has a decent relationship with the village, how about some occasional offers of food to the PC when they chat with villagers? Or increased chance of chores quest being offered to give PC trading credit?

On the reverse side, if the village is doing poorly ("bad hunting" or "crops failed this summer") perhaps there could be an opportunity for the PC to earn status/gratitude/friends by gifting some of their food supplies? Some of my long termers have pretty astronomical amounts of food hoarded and it would be nice to have a social purpose for it.

Re: Village Women Trading Too! I hardly bother (L)ooking at anyone other than hunters and adventures, the other villagers rarely seem to offer goods. However it would be cool if people had occupation related items, Craftsmen with carving axes and knives, even better sages and old men with herbs for sale. Maybe somehow labeled if you buy them.

Alternative quest reward. So my character received a find herbs, burdock, for old man quest. My herb lores not great and I don't recognize it. This got me thinking. If I was actually there I would ask what burdock looked like where it likes to grow? So I suggest the following. On gather herb quest the old men should also say something like it grows in fields or it likes river banks. I don't want a quest area circle just terrain preference. Second I think they " show" you what it looks like so you at least have a 1 out of 2 or 3 chance of recognizing out it in the field. And third if you succeed in the quest the old man teaches one or more properties of the plant. I would rather receive that knowledge than the traditional reward. Maybe a dialogue choice of do you know about this herb? Ok then let me tell you about it or oh you already are familiar this the uses of this herb then take this reward.

Re: Alternative quest reward. I agree that they ought to be able to tell you where to look for the plants.

It can be noted that you can collect various unidentified plants and offer them to the sage and he'll accept the correct one. Thus, if you keep track of the description for what you offer, you can get the unidentified description for the plant, and then go back out to collect more.

Re: Alternative quest reward. Hmm. The way I see it with quests is that not every character is able to do them all - and there's nothing wrong if they therefore have to abandon some quests right away.
This is different from (quite general) viewpoint where there should be options and aids to allow every character complete every quest.
There's character's dialog lines within this quest such as:
"Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the plants around here."
...and other ways to be fair with the sage about being weak with herblore. If that's the case, those lines can be used.

If I was to add character's dialog line such as "Could you describe this plant and tell me where it grows?" I'd be sure also to add sage's response "Well, if that's the level of your expertise in this matter then I have no use for herb pickers such as yourself." That's how I'd imagine those sages to act. Wanting help from somebody who really can help.

Re: Alternative quest reward. I don't spend a lot of time gather herbs so alot of time when that quest comes up I'm not sure which herbs I can even identify yet.

Your word is law but for the sake of friendly debate, I hear the quest as a need for young legs it's a task for an apprentice or novice. If they were wanting to test your herb lore then they should give an ailment like I've have a fever or cough, maybe trouble sleeping and they ask for herbs to help and thus you must be able to identify the properties of a plant to know what to give. But that would be an entirely different quest all together.

I just wish there were ways to learn from my elders

Head gear, bird leather I've found that a character can wear on his head, all at the same time:
1. Woolen cowl
2. Leather cap
3. Fur Hood
4. Mail cowl
5. Iron helm or a iron spectacle helm

Would this even be possible?

On another subject, I wonder about bird leather as a viable craft item. I'm having trouble visualizing a bird with skin thick enough to make leather, or large enough to make tanning it worthwhile.

Re: Well Good suggestion!

Also, it'd make sense if the villagers would access the water themselves, so it's not frozen solid thick.
Maybe add graphic of well ring and plank cover, then it'd be easy to spot and allow the water to be accessed without breaking the ice in winter.
Alternative graphic would be a shadoof. Family farm my dad was born* on in 1946 (no electricity, no running water, root cellar,  outhouse et cetera) had, likely still does have, a working shadoof in the yard.

*yes, born in the sauna before anyone asks  :D

Re: New color scheme: UnReal World without shades of gray. This hasn't been suggested before, so my conclusion is that for the vast majority of players it's not urgent at all to change it. Or actually, I'm pretty sure the most players would dearly keep it the way it has been for the past decades.

I made a little test and darkened color scheme looks pretty much ok, but if it gets featured it has to be optional and the current as default. I don't know if Terrarian has left the building already, but in general for suggestions to come alive they have to serve quite a big audience. I'll consider to have this as an option, but a few more "I'd like that as well!" comments would be good for getting started.
