Using Sami's work in a Feature Film In 2014, Sami posted a video he recorded outdoors in the middle of the night. A fox was crying out very loudly. I immediately asked him if I could borrow the audio from it and he said I could, as long as I gave proper credit to him whenever appropriate.

In 2019, I finally released a feature film that I've put 4 years into! I sampled the audio from Sami's video, the fox's wail was perfect for 2 scenes in the movie, it is heard around 12:00 and 50:00. Also, in Sami's recording, there is a whirring noise in the background that I used as an ambient effect. The soundtrack and ambient sound design in this movie was done very thoughtfully.

I haven't played URW or visited this forum since 2015, before the forum was recreated. I played URW a lot and I thoroughly enjoyed this community. I want to share my finished movie with you all, and I hope you like it. It's a drama about overcoming insomnia and challenging the status quo of conventional society. I put a ton of time and energy into this project and I'm trying to get it off of the ground...

Here is a 5-minute behind-the-scenes Director's Story - https://vimeo.com/350330067
And here's the full film. It's not free, but it costed me everything to get it to this point and buying it helps me recover my losses - https://vimeo.com/ondemand/bentonsomnolence

Re: Summer Sale, Summer opportunities Just a note on distribution: i actually bought the game on Steam in stead of donating because it was easier for me, but i still prefer to use the free version from the website. That's because the Steam version (on Linux at least) only works when you launch it via Steam. I actually had quite the annoyance when i tried to play URW on an airplane, and Steam refused to start (even in offline mode) because it couldn't connect to the internet. The version of the game downloaded via steam would not start on its own.

So as for donations drying up... perhaps like me other people simply purchase via steam in Stead of donating as they consider it equivalent?

Re: Summery summary in the midst of upcoming version hype [a hunter and a Njerpezit meet in the woods]
H: Hello fellow woodsman. Would you like to play some Footsommelo with me to pass the time?
[Njerpezit proceeds to stab the hunter in the face, who then collapses in a pool of blood]
N: It's called Sommeloker.

Bushcraft youtubers Since playing URW, I've gotten more and more into watching bushcraft/survival videos. It's really gold for city guys like me, never having experienced the outdoors.

This guy in particular comes very close to URW feeling:

Rune Malte Bertram-Nielsen (danish bushcrafter, blacksmith, green wood worker.. also some Sami-related stuff shown): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO_augYhnO7tF-d4JbSXFuQ

Other youtubers I follow:

- The Wooded Beardsman (surviving with only wild foods without losing weight, Canada): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuoSzo6nnDLKOiZ_rXHE6Gw
- TA Outdoors (bushcraft, wood buildings, some fishing/hunting, UK): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2SMpy2oZV6BoyJEYShw9bw

More Tracking info So as I write this I'm hunting reindeer I think to my self where is the one I crippled? And it hits me, an tracker at a certain level should be able to see if his prey is crippled by it's gait and I should also be able to determine relative size small, big, from tracks these small changes would make it easier follow specific animal in a herd.

Re: Tufted duck? And here I was thinking going to find a tufted duck was a Diirk pickup line.

Re: Tufted duck?

But mallards and swans do appear just right, and in my experience (even today in the game) are spotted quite often.
If something is extremely rare for one player it doesn't really tell anything. And you have to remember, even if something isn't seen it doesn't mean they don't exists.

I absolutely agree. Just wanted to mention it, in case the spawning rate had been affected by something else :)

Re: Tufted duck? Awesome news! :)

No such problem with mallards at all, my character living next to a big lake survived for months off lever-trapped mallards.

Can't wait to meet the tufted :)

Re: With a little help from companions. And the approaching release. This is so cool! I might finally start using companions more. Expanding the homestead would probably become a much more pleasant task, assuming one has plenty of dried meat in storage :)

It's a pity the Linux release will be delayed, but it's just a few weeks later it's fine. We are good at waiting, here in the URW crew  8)
