Midsummer greetings and pictures Almost equally bright days and nights go by as we're approaching the midsummer day, Juhannus, 24th.
I'm travelling from Kiesse to Kaumo (in the real world, but with unreal world region names) to welcome and celebrate the midsummer.
This post is to wish you all happy midsummer time, or best of the season, wherever you are.
And this is how the nature looked around here yesterday during the darkest hour of the night.

I'll be offline for a good few days, see you around next week,

Random little additions... Summer days are truly different. Oh how easily one can end up being carried away with all sorts of recreational activities and events. But I'm frequenting the coding chambers as well,  especially on rainy days :) -- and now, instead of organized update post, here's a completely random bunch of few small additions to expect in the next patch:

 - added: skinned/cut/burnt carcass coloring

Skinned carcasses now appear in fleshy red color.
Cut or eaten carcasses appear dark reddish, and burnt carcasses blackish depending on the cut/burn degree.

 - added: BUTCHER_CONFIRMATION configuration option

If the option is enabled a confirmation prompt appears if you try to butcher a carcass before skinning it.
This is to avoid accidentally cutting up the whole carcass and losing the skin.

To enable the option add the following line to urw_ini.txt setup file in your installation folder:
        [BUTCHER_CONFIRMATION:YES]

 - added: SPEND_DELAY_ADD configuration option

This option can be used to slow down all the time consuming actions if you find the game turns running too fast for your taste
during the time spending dialog. The given value is in milliseconds adding that much more delay for each game turn.
Good value to try slowin things down a bit would be 10 and nobody wants to go for more than 100.

To use eg. 10 millisecond custom delay add the following line to urw_ini.txt setup file in your installation folder:
        [SPEND_DELAY_ADD:10]

 - added: winter skin/fur descriptor

And as we know winter furs are more valuable, and it's been like that for a long time. Now there's finally
also an indication of wintertime furs and skins within the item description.
        For example:
"Fine winter fox fur" or "Poor winter bear-skin"

 - renewed & optimized: drawing of rain and snowfall

Previously rain and snowfall were drawn in putpixel fashion which was a speed issue on some systems.
Now rain and snowfall presented by tile graphics, with improved look and fast rendering.

 - added: redrawn 8 directional tiles for watercrafts

Both punt and raft now appear bigger and prettier in completely redrawn fashion. Credits for these tiles goes to Paulo Spinola.
Watercraft tile direction changes based on the last actually rowed direction.

A story of pain and the divines The hot summer sun laid like a tortuous rock on Viggu's back. The mosquitoes, which he had grown used to by now, laid like a thick fog in the air. They invaded most parts of the body, including the ears and nostrils, lest you had coated yourself in special tribal tinktures which for some reason kept them at bay. Some of the elders, back in the village, had told Viggu that mosquitoes were signals of protective and helpful spirits, though it was unclear exactly whom was protected by these pestuous things.

His first hunting trip with his father, Juggo, had gone well as of yet. Last evening they had continued their long walk upstream, checking traps and laying new ones where they could. Though having found no large game as of yet they still had more than half of the stream to cover, and were hopeful it would provide for them. They still had left some of the food they had brought along in case of emergency.

Laying himself to bed at their shelter in the evening, Viggu stared up towards the star-filled yet halfly sunny sky. He felt as if he was gazing into the endless distant of generations to come and generations that had gone. He felt at peace, envisiong himself and his future as finally being a true man once he had completed this first hunting trip of his. So important was the ritual of the hunting trip to his tribe (the Kuikka-tribe), that not only could you not marry at all before it had been completed, but each male was expected to make his own Kota and live for himself once he returned from the trip. Viggu had been preparing it back at home for weeks upon weeks, decidingly furnishing it as best he could. Though he would've wished several times help from his friends and family, none such could be given as per the customs of the tribe.

He fell asleep, yet woke again to a quiet and rasping sort of sound. Realising his father was likely out strolling early in the morning, Viggu thought naught of it and attempted heading back to his blissful slumber. Not long afore, however, he was jolted awake by a sudden stirr, a rasped scream that was let out. It was his father, and this was his scream of pain, death, and release from his world. A striking bolt of energy hit Viggu as he rushed towards the lean-to where his father had been sleeping a short distance away on the mire. He found him dead, his eyes closed and his body stiller than ever Viggu could've imagined. The blood-stained mire gave a orange-ish color that was disturbing and sickening to Viggu's eyes. He felt a void, or perhaps an immense pain (he was much to shocked and disturbed to tell which) as he gazed upon what had been his idol and image of the world having drifted away. There were no signs of big struggle, and death had come fast for Juggo. Before Viggu could gather his thoughts further to any sort of emotional slap across the proverbial face, he heard the roar of a beast that couldn't be far away. With the instincts of a true-grown man, Viggu quickly took all supplies he could from his father, all he could need and headed towards the nearest bit of covered forest to make sure he himself was not in range of whatever foul beast that had stricken his father.

With tears swelling in his eyes and his head feeling both full and heavy, he wandered seemingly without aim through the forest. Before long, he had lost his bearings. With no idea where he was, or how to reach his home, he fell to his knees. He cried, screamed and embraced the anguish of what had happened. Whatever creatures might have followed him, the ungodly screams and pure pain flowing from his throat had by now surely driven them away. He might have done this for an hour, he might have done it for a day. Again, he could not tell what really went on. All he knew was pain and pain ten-fold.

When his eyes were drier than a fire, and he felt as if he was wholly empty, he rose to his feet once more. He looked at the seemingly endless rows of trees and remembered the tales he had been told of what happened to each person wen they died. When you died, you left to join the spirit world in the far north, beyond the sea. So the elders said, and so it was for Viggu. He had pondered this in his crying and now looked decidedly at what he presumed (judging by the sun) to be north. He knew his mission, and he knew he could not fail. His tribe and home be damned, he could not bare to come back without his father. He was determined. He would travel as far north as he could, and he would find his father. He would bring him back from the land of the dead, or join him there.

Leather Working Started doing some leather work.  Lots of experiments at first.  Been meaning to throw this picture up and say something.

Since I have a bow and arrows, the puny excuse for a quiver that came with the arrows led me to make one myself.  It was my first attempt at making leather lace (the strings) for sewing and the long scrap leather piece I had rolled up nicely to make a cylinder.  Its irregular shape was not an issue at all.

All in all it was quite interesting and didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would.  Even cutting the lace was pretty easy.  I took a small board and cut a narrow slit about an inch deep into it.  I took a razor blade and bolted it down, cutting edge against the narrow slit.  Then just pulled the edge of the leather through to make nice, consistent leather lace/strings.  I can see this being a similar thing with simpler tools even... say nailing an sharp edge to a board kind of thing.

Of course an awl (in my case a leather hole punch) can be used to make holes.

Just thought it would be interesting to pass on to you Unreal World players.

Ignore the revolver holster.  It works, but I just threw that one together to test some things. My other holsters look much better. lol

[let it be] Re: Left and Right are swapped This gets reported at least once a year. Just as frequently people say it shouldn't be fixed since it's always been like that. Can be imagined as mirror image - before mirrors, but during the times of reflecting water.
Still, in 2017, we'll take no action on this one. Let's see next year :)

...fails to deliver a summer release || ...enters summer vacation.
Code: [Select]
You dream of a summer release.
You aim your fingers at the keyboard and code.
You fail to deliver a summer release.

You know, that's what has happened to me.
Like mentioned in earlier posts I dreamed of a summer release, and a proper long holiday afterwards.
But...we're behind the schedule with several planned goals and just can't make it.
Deadlines and summer - I should have known they don't go together.

So, hopes to come up with a new patch is thus postponed after the summer. I'll be entering summer vacation shortly, for the whole august.
This means I'll be more absent in regards to game related forums and e-mail activity.
Coding is to be continued in the autumn then, but some additional content is still to be expected sooner...

Steam Trading cards

Yeeees, the trading cards. That's what we will be releasing before I leave the development chambers. It's actually the trading cards (with emoticons, badges and all that extra) which have postponed my general working schedule more than expected. Ambitions can take time, you know, but we already love the outcome ever so much. So at least for Steam players there will be something new in UnReal World to browse during the summer.
A proper, loud and clear announcement of Trading Card release will be posted when the time is at hand.
You can still prepare yourselves, foreign and domestic card traders -- it's going to be beautiful!

Greetings from horseback

Code: [Select]
You aim your bow at a target from the horseback and shoot.
You are doing horseback archery.

You know, and speaking of dreaming, that has also happened to me.

For as long as I've been doing primitive and traditional archer I've dreamed of one day going for horseback archery. Until this summer it's been horseback riding and archery separately, but this very year I've picked up and entered this form of archery and horsemanship I've always craved for. This is going to be a dedicated horseback archery year for me, and whether I'm on a vacation or not, we just might see the next video greetings consisting of horseback archery footage.

Meanwhile, I'll leave you with these few still shots. First from the horseback, then by the tranquil summer lakes around my neighborhood.

Best wishes. We'll catch up with everything in the autumn. But I'm sure at some point I'll be tempted to post a few holiday greetings as well.
