Re: Crowdfunding : your thoughts?
Friend, you are overthinking it. There are plenty of Patreon accounts that are set up for just one project and even then, half the time the project is far from being either completed or even fully planned out. Moreover, there are creators that use it for direct support without actually having a defined product - bloggers, journalists, book writers etc. In my very humble opinion, you are more that ripe for it.

In terms of Sami vs Erkka vs Enormous Elk  - this is something you guys need to sit down and discuss. Personally, I'd make two accounts: one purely for URW and another one for Enormous Elk with honorary mention of its sister in each. Those who are interested in URW alone will be happy, any other project can fall under Enormous Elk. In terms of rewards - dont worry about it. Really. Most Patreon accounts are simple blogs with dev updates visible only to active contributors. Keep in mind that folks who are willing to support the creator long-term do it consciously and, more often than not, not looking for some kind of special reward. They support the creator because they want the end product and because they think its a right thing to do. So again, do not overthink it. I'd just start off simple, post weekly or bi-weekly updates on whats going on with devving and take things from there. Patrons will tell you if there will be a need for anything else (which I doubt).

P.S. Its your call of course, but I will not get off your back till you actually make it happen. Just so you know :)

Agree'd. I wouldn't mind throwing some euros regularly for URW development via patreon. Didn't read through every post in the thread, but had the same idea that Patreon could definitely be worth a try. Can of course ditch it, if it doesn't work as intended? Probably less of a hassle than developing a whole new game. :)

Re: Tree sap/syrup in spring?
if your sap would have 5% sugar you’d need about 17.2gallons of sap for a gallon of syrup.
According to google maple syrup is about 2/3 sugar.
So if you have 13 gallons of sap, there is about 2/3 of gallons of sugar (13 × 0,05 = 0,65), which means one gallon of syrup can be made from 13 gallons of 5% sap.
If your sap has 1% sugar content, you’ll need about 86litres to get 1litre of syrup..
0,65 / 0,01 =  65
So you would need 65 litres to get 1 litre of syrup actually.
Unless you are just talking about denser syrup (or I have missed something, idk I am not sap scientist).

A family survival game (in the making) As many of you might already know, here at Enormous Elk we have another game project in the making. The game is called Ancient Savo, and it is also keeping your family alive in the 1200CE woodlands of Eastern Finland. The time-scale of the game is so that one turn is 24 hours, and the gameplay is about planning actions. Like "fell down that area of woods", "sow rye", "build a cabin". You don't actually see your family members going around their daily business, so it is more like the old Sim City and such management games, where you hover over the map clicking tiles to plan actions. No fighting; cold, hunger and accidents are your only enemy. And the game is designed to be modding-friendly.

The development has been going on, and at the moment we have most of the basic elements set up. We have 2D and 3D graphics, and you can switch mid-game. You can plan actions and watch your children grow. You can visit a marketplace to barter with NPCs.

In addition to my own coding we already have a few rather awesome contributions by other people - like four original music pieces composed, played, recorded and mastered by Erik Torpström from Rogue Analogue.

Learning to code the 3D graphics took some time, but finally it works good enough. So that for coming weeks and months I'll shift my attention back to the actual game-play, balancing values, adding details etc.

---

EDIT by Erkka at 26th of December 2021 : Removed some outdated information, and here are the fresh additions;

To be honest, I haven't yet gotten to balancing values and adding details. Instead I've been busy with implementing the basics of a modding system, marriage and ability to continue playing as your offspring. All that kind of stuff took more time than I had thought.

Despite lagging a few months behind the intended schedule, the project is still very much alive. A private beta version is available for a restricted audience, and if no fatal bugs are found, there will be public beta sometime towards the end of January, or in February if bughunting eats away time from the actual development.

Apparently the old screenshot got deleted as I updated the project info at Enormous Elk site, so here is a fresh one:
