Re: 3.50 villagers dying in wells (again) Sadly that's not the case, I just drag him out from the well for a better angle of selfie.

Re: 25 stones quest I wonder if you gathered any stones from the village tile.  I bet those won't count toward the quest goal.  Try gathering a few more stones from tiles outside the village (lake shores and river banks seem pretty good) and try adding those to your pile.

but I don't know what was in use during the period.

I'm under the impression that candles and primitive oil lamps were for special occasions. For every day use the most common additional source of light was a thin piece of wood called päre. The link shows a wooded stand holding a päre in horizontal position. Such stands were used pretty much like a chandle holder. I'm not exactly sure but I'd guess they often had a bowl of water sitting on the floor, to catch any sparks or red glowing small ambers falling off the burning päre.

One piece of päre would burn for 15 minutes, so it isn't that handy for the kind of constant light we nowadays have in the era of electric light. Burning several päre in a row was the method to provide that necessary additional light when doing some indoor work which required more light than the glow of the fireplace.

(Sometimes I wonder how the Iron Age people survived the dimness of Finnish winter.)

The short burn time is offset by ease of use and ease of manufacture, to allow you to burn as many as needed in a row.

Here I'm thinking how that would be best implemented in the game, regarding the user interface and such. For example, if the player character first ignites a päre for additional light, and then starts a woodworking / crafting operation which would take 3 hours - should there be an option to "automatically start a new päre before the previous one is burnt out", or should we assume the player manually pausing the crafting task every now and then to press a few more keys to start another päre to keep the light going on? Or should it be so coded, that a next päre is automatically lit always when the following conditions are met: "there is a päre-holder with a lit päre in it, and one of the adjacent tiles has a stack of päre, and there also is an npc or the player character occupying a tile which has access to both the stack of päre and the päre-holder. And if so, should we run some additional checks that the mentioned character has at least one operational hand, or should we assume that even when both arms are fractured, the task can be completed by using feet and mouth?"

(sometimes I wonder how seemingly simple additions grow to become surprisingly complex design task when it comes to the actual "how to best simulate this in the game")

Re: Finding my arrows It does work for me, changing both the inventory and image on the ground. I've got no idea why it won't work for you.

I've made my arrows yellow-orange, leaving the tip and tail with their original color. I've also recolored my javelin. It's a color that tends to be visible even when behind trees, although it matches some mushrooms.

Re: Finding my arrows Merely saving the game, changing the file and reloading was not enough. I had to shutdown URW and reopen URW. The file size of wp-bharrow.png is 34x34 pixels. I looked for images of broadhead arrows online to alter the color of the resized image but decided to get a less detailed image. The result is laughable but effective.

Re: [3.63] Items disappear off an unconscious enemy. Like the people already mentioned some data can be lost if the game is shut down, or crashes. There are many save points along the regular gameplay even without manual saving, but they don't cover all the cases.

It's kind of like "I wrote a novel on some text editor, and then shut it down from task manager, and my last chapter just disappeared." So these aren't bugs per se.

We could add more auto-save intervals, but there would always be a gap that's not covered. Or if there wasn't, the gameplay would be awfully slow due constant saving.

The first snow and back from holidays Hey, it's been a good two months without a word here at dev. news section, so it's about time to break the silence,  although you may have spotted my slowly increasing presence at the forums bugs section already.
We had the first snow few days ago, so the summer season is evidently ceasing.
See, I went on summer holidays quite late this year, in august, and thought "it's likely autumn, or early winter, before I get back to development chambers again."
Looks like that the time is at hand now.
Hunting bugs has always been a good way to get oriented back into coding, and I guess focus on that will continue for a good while. But yeah, the endless to-do lists also awaiting for us. So let's continue from here, and see where we get by the end of the year.

Re: Character Portraits
I may be wrong but I think you're looking for "[Wickham's] Graphical Enhancement Project"
It provides a good number of images that have a very different feel from the LARPy ones.

Searched but did not find a link to it here. I do have a copy of this mod but it is oversize to attach here.

That was it!!! Thank you I never would have found that. They are perfect. Very much appreciated.
