Re: Wild animals suiciding on melting ice? The mechanism and possibility of animals falling through thin ice is not a bug, but a tasty feature.
From the news (and stories) we hear in Finland, it's quite common for elks to fall though thin ice.

This is news image from few years back, where five bull elks had fallen into ice.

Elks have great trouble getting back on the ice they fall through, and that's why it's often fatal for them.

Naturally this can happen to smaller critters as well. Think of dogs, for example. Given all the wits they have, thin ice isn't something they can't reason all too well - especially if running after a hare.

In my opinion animals drowning in thin ice is not too common in the game, although it's tricky to say as we often hear only a few case examples.

Re: Measurements for terrain map and wilderness. It says in news.txt that you won't learn unless it's at least 5 tiles away.

Quote
Version: 3.14-b3
Released: Jan-28-2012

- balanced: skill improvement with target practice

    * Target practice skill improvement rate has been decreased a bit.
        * Throwing/shooting at targets less than 5 tiles away isn't considered
a proper target practice and doesn't improve your skills.

Re: Extra cords after drying meat I managed to reproduce the case Miriel reported. It appears that if many different food stacks are dried/smoked at the same tile, and the same kind of tying equipment is used, the tying equipment stacks and is freed together with the first prepared food stack.

Tom H, yours sounds like an issue we fixed (or tried at least) in 3.60beta hotfix 3. Are you playing that version? Check your main game-screen - it should say version 3.60beta / hotfix 3.

Re: Lord Mandalore reviews UnReal World
I got the impression that the guy was embarrassed to be reviewing Unreal World because of the graphics. He couldn't get around that. He highlighted a lot of good points, but very briefly. When I read the comments, it appeared that his disdain had been absorbed by his viewers, too. For what purports to be a 'good review', his opinion failed to sway.

I'm quite sure he wasn't embarrassed at all. We all know the UI and outlook is dated from the perspective of modern games. Reviewing a heavy simulation in fifteen minutes is mission impossible to start with, so the brief points need to be brought up in entertaining fashion. I personally enjoyed the review, and his sense of humour, a lot.

Re: Rafts! Raft weight shall be fixed. It's indeed way too low,  80 pounds currently.
Numerous raft related additions are also being planned, for example small raft from slender trunks.
Also, rowing the raft should be way slower than going with a punt. Moving a heavy raft with paddle should be both slow and quite a bit exhausting as well.

Re: [3.60, Older versions] Infinite Skill Points Glitch Fixed now. Encyclopedia was mistakenly considered a skill entry, and the mess followed.

Fixed - persists in 3.60

Winter Update, Steam Autumn Sale Firstly, Autumn Sale on Steam has started, so those who've been itching to enter the far north on Steam can now do it for discounted price.

Secondly, as mentioned earlier we're also planning a small patch update still this year. It's coming up nicely. News about some features will follow next week.

Thirdly, for those who are wondering when might 3.60 (and so on) to be released outside Steam, the answer is after the seasonal Steam sale periods for 2019 are over.

And lastly, here's some winter greetings to all of you!
