Re: Best equipment for hide working Snip—
Mother Pipe will work, too, but I don't find many of those.

They only grow in Northern areas, bear pipe in Western and Eastern. Effect seems to be the same.

Re: Cellar mechanics Baited traps seem to work best in my experience.

Loop snare for hare and birds.
Light lever trap for birds and arctic foxes.
Small dead fall for foxes, badgers et cetera

And most intruding, thieving wildlife will get trapped before getting to your larder.
(Ravens especially are voracious; they’ll nibble on entire stacks. Usually berries though. But they can still take an equal bite of 50 berries in an instant.

Also, unless it has changed; bears can open doors.

Re: Live fish sometimes visible in nearby water @Kels that’s a good suggestion.
Please start a new suggestion, as this one has already been responded to by Sami and your idea might go unseen.

Re: Njerpez Encounters in 3.63 Must be randomized. I’ve seen 1 camp in last 6-7 characters, on 36.2&3.63.
Which is infinitely more than on version 2.7?-3.52. Older versions would spawn a LOT of Njerpez and their camps. “Like mushrooms after a rain”

Re: Trapping advice Paw board needs to be baited individually. Otherwise you get nothing.

Tip of paw board is like “w”, the center being usually bit taller than the sides. The bait is placed in the center. With the board erected upright: to get the bait, fox has to jump up to nudge the bait off. But while nudging the bait; it’ll get stuck on the notch and stay dangling until trapper comes to harvest.

If there’s no bait on pawboard, there no reason for the fox/vixen to jump to knock it down; and so will never catch a fox.

Re: How do I ski To add to Erkka’s experience:
Skiing on icy snow is extremely slippery, one can’t get a proper kick without some hefty “grip grease” or like in the past; fur on arch, middle of the ski, under ones foot. Whereas one would want to lubricate the ends of the skis for better gliding on wet, or soft snow.
(Hair by grain to glide forward, and consequently against grain for kicks, to stop/minimize backwards glide)

And as for fatigue from skiing at grandmaster level: often the fatigue pops up to 1%, to revert back to 0% same or following turn. While skiing, not resting. High endurance really helps. Encumbrance below 10%, preferably not higher than 7%.

Re: Does food burn if cooked on the same tile as the cellar? I’m of similar perception as Brygun; the food will burn, but as long as the fire goes out, it’ll be fine and gets checked as “in cellar” for the daily spoilage check.

You can easily test it by roasting a cut of meat, while standing on cellar, with 3 branches. Leave the cooked cut untouched, add considerably more firewood to the burnt out fire, light it up: if you get note stating it smells like it’s burning soon, you’ll know it’ll burn up.
It does do that elsewhere.

And on the other hand, if you drop any cooked and picked foods, say at your fishing shelter, then roast fresh catch, none of the previously cooked foods, including roasted, will give you the message of burning smell.

Re: Overwintering Crops Wiki is not most accurate, sadly. (I’m not blaming anyone, I know I’m poor at updating it)

I rarely play farming types, so don’t have newest version yes/no to overwintering crops. One character that has farming plots, is now in Pearl month. I’ll get to late summer/fall eventually, to do some testing.
