Re: All forest reindeer are does, no stags
I have been noticing this for a while. Whenever you encounter forest reindeer, use F3 to look at them. There are does and calves but no stags. I haven't seen a single forest reindeer stag since gender was implemented. I have seen both reindeer stags  and does for sale in northern villages.

Also I have never seen a baby hare  but I haven't encountered enough hares to be sure that I just haven't got lucky yet; after all it took me many games to see a single bear cub and it may be the same with hares. But I have encountered hundreds of forest reindeer by now and all of them have been female.

Checking out the code, it seems like forest reindeer gender is never created anywhere, so they all are does - as default. So it's something I've forgot to add, or misplaced in the heat of coding. To be fixed...

Fixed - persists in 3.52

Re: Aptitude not updating
When completing a game course and choosing to raise the attributes the attributes raise but the skill aptitude stays the same. Skill aptitude is an average of attributes so if they all go up by one shouldn't the aptitude also increase by 1?

Thanks!

Nope, I don't consider that relevant (and I'm not sure if harnmaster original rules do that either) as the aptitude is "inborn", original quality for given skill.

Re: sacrificing dried fish pleases the forest, not the water Hmm. What can I say, except that after some considerations I don't find anything to fix at this point. Sacrifices are something that we don't have a definite rulebook to rely on, and actually trying to comprehend old finnish mythology ie. sacrifices often leaves me with a questions like "How come it's good to sacrifice that in this situation? I'm confused." :)

What I can say, though, is that freshness of the sacrifice is relevant in some cases - and in case of fishing sacrifices, that is pretty much a must. (Like speculated)

So in this case the bug is the "you feel comfortable" message after sacrificing roast meat followed by "you feel unsteady" message after sacrificing raw meat.

I can't pinpoint a bug here either, although the exact order of the events is unknown.
To mix you guys up even more I can also reveal that roasted meat can be a good and solid sacrifice sometimes, and if the (forest) spirit at the location felt you were in debt it could be happily accepted.

Year 2018 now added to development history log Briefing of year 2018 is now summarized up at "Development history of UnReal World" section at the homepage.
Mostly about fixing and balancing it was. And little bit about cats and Guinness World Records.

You can take a look at the Dev.news since 1992 page here:

Re: Persistent injury effect on speed? Okay, it took a while to figure this out but it must be the winter decreasing the mobility.
It is intended that walking in the snow (unless skiing) is slower , but it appears that the mobility meter doesn't really take into account the snow depth here - as you are indoors.

If my theory proves right, then there's something to fix in regards to wintertime walking in the snow mobility checks.

[Diary entry] Skiing and tracking I guess we haven't seen any lynx related dev's diary entries here at the new forums. The old forums surely had some. So, how about a little picture story from the real world adventures of unreal world developer - with a lynx involved.

I went skiing the other day, and the ski trip then turned into a tracking exercise. Soon after entering the forest I spotted some lynx tracks, but our paths then departed as I went about my own trails.

Later, when returning home, strange curly tracks caught my attention - and sparkled my tracking instinct. I guessed that this might be the same lynx now dragging its kill, and had to confirm the theory.

I scouted the area, found lots of hare tracks, and then the lynx tracks which eventually turned into sneaking tracks as it approached the location.

The hare's last dance with the lynx went to many directions until finally the place where it ended was found, with some hair and (not too old) bloodscape.

There, the lynx had dragged its kill to a more peaceful location for eating it. That was some twenty meters away, among thick young spruce trees. Not much was left of the hare, but a few hairy bits on the snow.

Afterwards, I had to search for my backpack for half an hour as I had left it somewhere on the snow in excitement. I enjoyed the day and I hope you enjoyed this first, but hopefully not the last lynx related diary entry at these new forums.

Re: [Diary entry] Skiing and tracking
Hahah! Many times I've done a similar thing both in UnReal World and the Real World - leaving my backpack or gear somewhere in excitement, and then having to track it down again.   ;D  One time I thought I lost a very valuable water pump in real life, due to its being in a green pack.  Or, alternatively... my leashed-up cow and stack of furs in the game.  I thought I was the only one!

Hehe, you're certainly not the only one. I think forgetting where you left some of the gear you carried in the woods  is surprisingly common and natural. And you think you would learn from it, but you don't :)

[Diary entry] Talks with PhD about folk beliefs in UnReal World The folklore, mythology and folk beliefs displayed in UnReal World have also arised academic interest.
Last weekend fresh Doctor of Philosophy, mr. Kyyrö, from Univerity of Turku School of History, Culture and Arts Studies paid a visit and came to talk about these themes for a project he is planning regarding computer games and religion.
Should there be some related publications or articles in the future, I'll keep you updated, but you gotta be patient as ambitious academic studies are proceeded slowly and carefully.
It's the same with ambitious iron-age inspired computer games too... :)

Re: [Diary entry] Talks with PhD about folk beliefs in UnReal World
So, will he provide you feedback of real folklore findings he's made, or is he only dealing with the computer side, rather than the comparison to the actual underlying folklore?

Interesting regardless, though.

He's from department of study of religion, so it's certainly not only the computer side. We'll see, but if the project gets planned and going the game and my answers will be used as references and sources within academic context - be it articles, or bigger publications. My spoken words would also end up in university archives for the future generations to use.

Re: [not a bug] Not all animals available for sale Not a bug, NPCs decide what they are willing to sell, from their currently available flock.

Moreover, in the next version villagers won't never sell all of their animals so even less availability is to be expected.

It's a common false assumption in many cases in UnReal World that we aim to make everything always available for the player character's needs. ;)
