Re: Impossible quest I'll be more direct than trying a joke: It might be a good idea to ask in the Gameplay questions forum about something that seems wrong rather than immediately jumping to the conclusion that the issue is a bug.

Re: Suggestion for the upcoming Trophies I find those suggestions reasonable (although not necessarily my top priority ones), with the exception of fish: until such a time that you can either smoke/dry different species/sizes of fish together, or you smoke "cuts" (i.e. fillets) that have a standard size, individual sized fish would be a processing nightmare (it' already one of the reasons I don't do much fishing with my characters, because it's hard to get full batches of any species even in winter).

Re: Help with bird thief quest The snares exist in the game world from the time the quest is generated (or at least accepted), so you can find the snares while waiting for your traps to bag a bird.
This quest, like all the other "find things within area" quest, requires a tedious search through every tile within the area that matches the description: it does not have to be near the center.
I use two techniques for these area searches:
1. The preferred one is to sweep back and forth over the area on the world map, zooming in to every tile of the right type, look forward, look back, zoom out, move to the next tile, repeat. This covers an area is less than 5 days (but it generally takes more than one).
2. When the target is in spruce infested forest visibility is too poor for the previous technique to work. In that case I follow the borderline on the zoomed in map for as long as that feature is relevant, zoom out, move to the next one, etc. This technique generally takes longer and is more prone to overlooking a tile.

Thus, when going on these quests I make sure to bring food for at least a week.

Re: Help with bird thief quest In your case the traps are located on the heathland, but if the heathland doesn't have coniferous forest as its western border tile it's not of interest. Heathland is sufficiently open that you ought to see the traps using zoom in/look forward/look backwards/zoom out. The site can be quite some distance from the border (I believe injured adventurer shelters have been found close to the center of the tile), but so far walking on the border has been sufficient for me to find clues. I'd say the bird thief one is one of the harder, because the traps and feathers do not stand out the way blood splatter does (but your tile mod should ease that a bit).
If you want to use the "follow the border" search method I'd recommend walking a fair bit inside the heathland tile within view of the border to cover as much of the tile as possible.

Re: Do Single-Tile Islands Generate Animals? Animals appear everywhere (in particular birds), and I've found hares and even elks spawned on single tile islands, so foxes can presumably be spawned there as well, but it wouldn't be very frequently.
It can also be noted that trap fences do not work well with small game traps, as small game can simply run through the fence (small here <= lynx). Wolves can pass fences (jumping?) but tend to go through the trapped openings (less work?).

Re: Need help with a certain character build I haven't played any Sartolan characters, but I generally start my characters out by setting up a few of the smallest deadfall traps (they don't require any precious string) to catch occasional birds, with bait being optional. The next step is killing a large non carnivorous animal, like an elk or a reindeer that can be gotten with endurance hunting. While doing that, I throw rocks at any nearby stationary birds I happen to zoom in reasonably close to, as it's possible to hit one occasionally, and they tend to drop to the ground giving you some time to kill them before recovering.
Squirrels are the easiest to kill, but don't give much net food given the time it takes to process their skin (the same goes for birds).
One a big animal has been killed it's time to roast the meat and prepare the skin. Once the meat has been roasted it's time to haul it to town to exchange it for some tool(s).
Agriculture typically happens during the second year (I start in "spring", usually) with a lot of time spent during the winter to prepare for farm plots, and the meat and some skin collected during the year is exchanged for tools and seeds, with the aim to build up a stock of food so that a month or so can be spent mostly burning and preparing soil.

The worse a character is at active hunting the more I'd lean towards passive hunting. I typically build a trap fence around a single tile lake and have 3 bear or pit traps on each side (no spikes, to harm the skins as little as possible).

The first 2-3 years are basically spent setting things up (farming, building a homestead, trap fence). The first building built is a sauna (for smoking), with a cellar being made as soon as I can (to get food to keep longer).

Others use other strategies, though.

Re: Need help with a certain character build Yes, my characters rely on birds mainly while chasing big game. In a few cases a grumbling belly has been somewhat satisfied by berries, but in most cases I there aren't any available when I start. You can actually go for a fair while without food or only the occasional piece of meat, but the only characters who've been starving significantly have been escaped slaves on small islands.

There are at least two reputation levels: one with the village, and one with individuals. Apparently you've managed to get on their really bad side (I've never been worse than Kaumolais man, which, in my case, seemed worse than frequent guest). Like you, I have been able to improve a poor village reputation (setting a bird trap on what happened to be their pasture), but not the reputation with the character who refused to speak with my character.
I'd suggest going to a different village, and declare this one more or less dud for the time being. It can also be noted that UrW healing isn't magic, so the only effect you'd get from the healer's attention is a slightly faster recovery.
As far as I understand, an injury can have a maximum penalty of 25, and it takes roughly one day to reduce the penalty by one step. With first rate care, you might get completely healed after 20 days, but with your own skills it would probably be around 25 (I guess some stats (endurance?) might come into play as well. If you're not treating the wounds at all, e.g. because you don't have any bandages, and don't want to risk bleeding to death because of opening wounds when trying, I guess recovery takes longer (add 5 days at a guess). Also note that functionality lost because of injury is regained before the injury is completely healed (I don't remember when, probably at 5 or 10).
You should also know that injury treatment can be performed daily, so using the shaman would mean daily visits to the village.
If I was in your shoes, I'd do things that do not require standing (various kinds of crafting [including bandages...], for instance), and keep close to the homestead. The final hide treatment stage requires standing, so any hides you get should either be discarded or preserved for later processing.

If you want to try to regain the favor of the shaman I would try to give him herbs (note that I've never tried it) using the "I have something for you" option. You might try other gifts as well. If you do, please report back on the results, as it would be useful knowledge.

How long does it take for human bodies to decay?  Do they every "go away" on their own?
As far as I've seen there is no such thing as natural decay (of any bodies). However corpses CAN be eaten, but it doesn't seem to happen often (as bodies tend to just lie around for years). It's been mentioned that starving dogs eat corpses (including human ones), but to do that you need to starve the dogs first (which, apart from animal cruelty, involves keeping up with constant barking), and I've experimented with feeding Njerp and robber corpses to the carrion birds (i.e. raven), to some effect. It takes something like 3-5 raven "sessions" to eat a Njerp corpse completely, leaving nothing left, but it's not that easy to get them to feast.

Re: Curious About Quest Rewards (spoilers hopefully) Hare paws have something like 3 or 5 uses, but I've only used them accidentally. I can think of two very good uses:
1. Critical combat attacks.
2. Crafting something valuable and difficult.
I don't know how well it works, though.

Most skill lessons have been for weapons, but I've occasionally gotten other skills. Definitely fishing, and I think trapping as well, and probably one or two others (hide working?).
