Bug reports / Too much cold
« on: November 04, 2022, 10:31:59 AM »
In winter, it may be so cold that a person dies in frost after only a few hundred meters of skiing. This happens even though he is wearing woolen clothes and furs.
It happened to me after he left the campfire feeling "hot".
It would be good to know how much it's freezing outside. It seems to be more like -80?

Another problem is the villagers who go after the criminal in waist-deep snow and fight against sword with knife. Women don't tire as quickly as a hunter.
The third problem is, that the villagers don't know how to throw anything. I'd be in trouble if they know how to throw rocks. Instead, they try to hit with a rock.

Another problems:

- You can fill (partly) a drinking vessel with dried meat.
- Salt spoils.

I've noticed this as well, but I think it's working as intended.  Superior furs are perhaps the top 5%, fine furs the next 20%, decent the next 50%, so it is easy to drop from superior to decent but a larger drop is needed to go from fine to harsh.

I can't make superior quality fur.
Once it happened that the fortified village contained only birds and a snake. The bird was also inside the house. It seemed that the inhabitants had turned into birds.
Earlier I had attacked another fort village and shot people from the western wall.

HOW TO GET START?

"custom - too easy"
owl tribe
only endur, dex, agi, speed, eyesight are important

herblore, fishing, hidew., timberc. textilec., carp., swim., knife, axe, spear, bow, unarmed are important.
take minus from others, especially bulding, cookery, weatherlore, stealth, tracking...

take "unfortunate huntingtrip" (you get the goods from the dead)

Start in the north (kuikka tribe), get a fishing rod (or do it yourself), n. spear and (masterwork) n. bow.
Go south, and get a (masterw.) axe, and a (masterw.) hunting knife, and if possible, net.

I always live in the east in the Reemi area. I build a shelter next to the river rapids - fishing waters always open. I have helped the villagers with clothes and weapons by destroying the light green (Kiesse) area in winter.
I don't destroy the villages, but i move the goods to my own residential area villages.

I also destroyed the fortified villages in the Driik area. When you come from the west, to that village, the character jumps on a rock from which the villagers can easily shoot.

I was also thinking of destroying the Koivula and sartola, as well as the seal tribe areas. Then I can arm and clothe the children as well.

I hope to get rid of the constant pressing of the arrow keys, and you can use the mouse to control where the character moves.

General Discussion / Re: my starving dog just killed a bear single handed

Iron Age pups were hardier?  ???

75 bow / x-bow skill should be workable. Do you recall how much encumbrance AND Fatigue you had?

When I head out with bow, I try to keep the encumbrance below 10, usually around 7.
And I find it’s better to keep the fatigue 1-2 at most, so it only takes few rest turns to 0 it.
I also have a problem with competence. If a person is a "grand master" in archery, he should be faster than the others. He should also hit better, but the man might send an arrow to fly badly.

What about the sword? I understand it's a turn-based game ... but he won't survive against enemies, even if he's a master. He is too slow, even if he is fast and skillful.
The villagers attack even the owner of the sword, and fight the last girl and boy. The villagers should be made more fearful.
The master shoots 2 times where the enemy has time to advance 2-3 meters. You start against the sword only with a group, or armed.

One thing I miss is tying a person and kidnapping children.

Hi, maybe it is the lack of global warming, or just a harsh cold year but it is currently Day 5 of 3th week before Midsummer Point...

And my world is still frozen over. I cannot till any soil, I cannot plant any crops and cannot ret any nettles.

I can peel bark from birches, wild nettles and other plants are growing, the ground is green...

I had the same problem.
A few possibilities I doubt:
- Have you "run" in the game (in big map)?
- Have you used the Winamp music listener when playing the game? (I used)
- Some problem along the river, west side? Lingonberries and cloudberrys are ready, in early hay month and before that.

- I don’t know how cold it came, but I didn’t see the blue on the thermometer. Even before skiing for a mile, the man was almost frosted to death, even though he was wearing fur and woolen clothing, meaning the heat was completely green all over his body, except, of course, on his hands and face. I was "running" in the game. Could that be the reason for the whimsy of the temperature?
I warmed up and continued my journey (I didn't "run", and suddenly I noticed that it didn't get cold so fast. I don't know if "running" in the dark would have caused the temperature to change again. Well, the weather was warming up a bit.
I "ran" again, and the temperature cooled. I went for a drink on the lake, continued my journey, did not run, and suddenly the temperature bounced from about -35 to -25.
Well, in any case, the constant pressing of the keys to move forward is numb. It would be good to make some kind of itinerary and the person would go for it automatically.

Not bugs / Re: Digging problem

Cannot dig, if there's blood or tracks?

Blood or tracks shouldn't matter in digging a pit. Please be more specific, what did you try, what happened, what did the game say?
You were right. Traces in the blood do not prevent digging. What was the reason before? Well, I'll see later.
A few more areas for improvement:
- You can get branches from adult pines (impossible without climbing)
- The number of ant nests could be doubled.
- There are no standing dead trees.
- Choosing Firewood: Leaf trees are safer, because they don’t shoot.
- When a tree is felled, it only leaves a piece a couple of meters long, which can be moved when the branches are in it.
- A person is unable to lift or carry logs, but is able to build a house?
- Tar trees and stumps? (more lighters) The same thing with birch bark.
- Able to build a kota from a whole cover? But weight? Leather too heavy.
- The number of wastes or bones of large animals to find could be doubled (I haven't found any yet)
- Flocks of ravens and crows at dead animals?
- Using bones as arrowheads too?
- Dropped deer antlers? I haven't seen it anywhere yet.
- Wolves didn't react to a piece of thrown meat
- The villagers seem to sleep outside in the rain, and even in the middle of the yard. In winter, someone might hike without footwear.
- You have to find all the goods, etc. yourself. Good if you could ask if there is stuff you want in the village.

I guess the reason the climate changes to “zero state” is perhaps if person “runs” from place to place. The beginning of the change is shown on a dark background as strange pixel changes.

Enemies should be made more humane! You cannot even give weapon to them.
And a backpack could be made for the person. He can carry incredible amounts of stuff if he can, but I don’t know how. Where does he fit everything? An equipment belt with cases or small bags would also be good.

Solved'n'fixed bug reports / Re: yarn weight bug

3.70 beta3
screenshot&savefile attached

yarn 100 ft = 3.6 lb
yarn 50 ft  = 13 lb ????

savefile : drive.google.com/file/d/1y7F-yGRRYfleqoAQZJuDyl3kti5e8Nmd/view?usp=sharing

Sounds like this issue:
https://www.unrealworld.fi/forums/index.php?topic=6500.0

which will be fixed in the next release.

Did you produce those yarns by yourself? If so, then it's likely the same bug.
When you load a person (saved game), the name of the first person is not displayed, but the second is displayed.
Unable to load first person. The game says, "cannot migrate. This savegame needs a remedy ..."
So I created another person. Has worked otherwise ok, but when going to the "Skill" menu, you have to press 3 times the space, and then the game says, "Bug! Couldn't resolve the textilecraft skill ..." But that doesn't stop you from playing.

I would also like to get married. I thought some criterion must be that your spouse sees you as a good hunter / fisherman. Is a couple of good self-praises enough? On the other hand, someone from an enemy tribe is also good for me. I have also thought about the possibility of stealing a child and raised it as my own.
It would be good to trade with the Njerps as well, and if you want, you could jump on their side. The tasks performed at their place could be similar to those in my own country.

I also thought that trading could be made easier and faster.
"Do you have ..."? You could choose a topic from the menu: clothes, weapons, furs ...You select a product, and the person retrieves it for you.

I have helped villagers in my area by buying from them "useless" goods, that I take to the west, where I buy armors, weapons, and fur/woolen clothing for them.
On the other hand, helping could be made easier:
"Do you need something"?

I once noticed surprise in the woods - wandering villagers. I didn’t know where they were going, I didn’t leave to follow, but probably a new village exchange. I thought about asking them where to travel, but I had other things to do and I don’t know if it would have been possible.

Elderly people (who living alone) i usually destroyed by taking them on a military expedition to an enemy village at night. When the old ones fight, I run through the village myself, and steal as much stuff as I can.

Usually I have destroyed by traps (to the west or north of the village by making a forest border) archipelago, dark gray, light green/gray, yellow and orange villages. Today, the villages in my own area (southern green) are well-dressed and armed. The "factories" are in the light blue, and gray area.

About SKILLS, weapons etc. I thought that:
0% = Haven't seen/heard before
1% = has heard about it
2% = has seen
3% = has seen in use, or has held in his hand
4% = has used in work
5% = has used 2 days in work, understand the principle in general
The remaining percentages of the use of the item (6-100%)

as well as KNOWLEDGE OF THE AREA:
0% = haven't seen/heard before
1% = has heard about it (also seen the map shown?)
2% = has been there, and has seen people (he/she cannot know where he/she is, unless he/she asks)
3% = has been in village
4% = talked to people (speaks a foreign language? Gain experience whether a person understands or not)
5% = understand the principle in general
The remaining percentages of the area hiking

About the FIGHTING
0% = haven't seen/heard before
1% = has heard about it
2% = has seen people fighting
3% = has been in fight
4% = talked to people about it, received instruction
5% = understand the principle in general

Can be added ASSASINATION? Know the points to hit, to make the result more destructive?
THROWING need.
I think in describing a skill a "grand master", could be given to be just a "master"

In this game, it would be good to learn from a game called Avernum.. Especially in terms of movement and fighting.
