General Discussion / Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World?

Created a new side character for a challenge. Wanted to do a vegetarian pacifist run. No killing, hunting or fishing or eating meat in any form. Only exception would be milk.

Two weeks in stumbled upon an abandoned settlement with a sauna and a small cottage. Settled there and traded handcrafts, my weapons and all my clothing for two sheep for milk.

Settled at the abandoned site that happened to be on a 3 tile island already cleared of trees. Perfect spot for agriculture.

Started in spring and had to scrape by eating leaves and grass to start. Milk helps immensely and now onlu 15% staving :D

Update. No longer starving. Got my hands on some turnips and gathered a lange bunch of bear- and dogpipe. These seem to be quite enough, complimented with a gulp of milk every day, to keep one from starving. Soon it's harvest time and I plan on trading most of my harvest for something to wear before winter comes. I opted to refuse wearing fur as well, so that will be quite the callenge.

Bug reports / Dried meat in a container works as tanning material
« on: February 28, 2024, 05:40:29 PM »
I noticed this by accident. I selected a bich bark box of tasty dried elk meat instead of the elk fat and behold! It worked as tanning material. I doubt this is intentional. I tried dried meat by it self and it didn't work, so it must've been the meat in the container. The tanning didn't consume the birch bark box, just the dried meat.

I'm playing vanilla v3.71

Antlers seem to have some trading value too.

Gameplay questions / Re: How do I establish my village?

Here's something I did to achieve something similiar: I found a settlement that only had one old man living there. I moved there for a while, and due to some misunderstandings, my dogs killed the old man. I then started gathering woodsmen and hunters who had fallen in forest cover, and guided them to this settlement, wich now was mine. After they settled there, they seem to keep roaming nearby and popping in and out of the settlement, lighting fires etc. They aren't much help apart from trading the occasional fur from them, but it kind of feels like my settlement has someone living there, or at least considering it their home.

Ah, I see. I did know you could throw pretty much anything, but hadn't tried to wield anything other than weapons or a ski stick.

I noticed that you can wield a rope. Is there any use for doing so, or is it just that the game sees it as a tool?

Gameplay questions / Another lost dog situation [solved]
« on: November 21, 2023, 07:51:48 AM »
I'm settled on an island of ~7x4 tiles in the middle of a lake. I have six dogs. I was out looking for herbs and the dogs were with me. At some point, back at my settlement I noticed that three of my dogs have gone missing. They were not leashed and there is a fence surrounding my homestead. I can still call the three missing dogs but they won't respond. I can call them on most tiles of my island and some anjacent water tiles, so I'm assuming the doggos are somewhere on the island. Can't find them however. Any suggestions? I miss my pups.

edit. So I found the dogs. I took my punt and systematically called them at every water tile adjacent to my island, and located them to the sout-east quater of it. I then started combing thät quater up and down calling them every now and then. Finally I got a responce "you hear a creature barking in agreement..." Followed the bark and found my pups stuck inside a square of trees. Never seen that before. I had to fell a tree to get them out.

This has never happened to me before, but I used to keep my dogs leashed until recently, after growing tired of constantly leashing-unleashing them/tying them to trees.

After the incident and me inheriting Matti's settlement, I wet back home and found a njerp war camp to the north of my homestead. I gathered a group of brave men from a few villages and killed every single one of the njerp in the camp, piled up the corpses in a cabin and set it aflame. Two of my men fell in battle. I took the burden of taking their vbodies back to their home village for their own to see them to their final rest.

Before my second summer I decided to befriend an old forester man living alone between lands of driik and reemi. His name was Matti. I begun hunting on the heathlands around his settlement, bringing meats from my kills to smoke in his cabin. I gave half the meat to him in return for letting me use his cottage.

However, come fall I was preparing to return back to my own settlement before lakes begun freezing, and for some reason picked some dog pipes and such from his yard. This angered matti, and furious he attacked me while I was tanning an elk hide. Unfortunately for Matti, my six dogs tore him to death.

I gave Matti a decent burning burial and kept preparing my journey back home. One day wandering around I ran into a lost hunter whom I escorted to the settlement that I considered mine now. He settled there.

Now I have a settlement in the east and a hunting cabin hafl way to the west with a helping hand taking care of it while I'm away. I'm sorry for poor old Matti, but it seems things turned quite fine for me.
