Title: [Fixed - persits in 3.71] Yarns are gaining weight
Post by: Valor on April 26, 2022, 12:30:26 PM
I returned from a long trip only to find that all my old yarns are much heavier than before. Could this be related to Joining yarns together? I always do that after meat drying is done.

The 0,5kg one is new I made, just to be sure I am not crazy, the other are old ones.

Also previously reported here: cordage gaining excess weight (https://www.unrealworld.fi/forums/index.php?topic=6627.0)

I encountered similar bug, running 3.71 stable version (from steam). The hemp yarns have very different weight even when they are the same length.

Don't know whether the following details are relevant: they were from a single 150ft hemp yarn I purchased, and were used to smoke meat in a village, so they were automatically cut into pieces. some of the smoked meat also spoiled (don't know if that matters). I didn't join them.

Could this be caused by the weight calculation of smoked meat? Smoked meat loses some weight, so for some reason the cord weight was messed up?

I haven't been able to reproduce this myself, but from all the evidence/reports we have so far it's likely linked to using cordage in smoking/cooking, and the autocutting mechanism also likely has a part in this.

@Sami
I've experimented a little.
It would seem auto-cut yarns get their remaining weight from the full weight yarn*.
Manually cut, (habit from 3.63: I would join 15' ones and then cut to 25'. Easiest when smoking/drying) get their weight calculation done correctly. See Attached

*first auto cut yarn from 150' bundle gets tagged with weight 0.7lbs. Remaining 125' shows weight 0.6lbs. and so on. Once smoking finishes and yard is released, it shows the weight of the bundle used to for smoking the batch.
I'm guessing the 2nd run of the yarn will get the first 25' show weight at 2.3lbs (0.1+0.2+0.3+0.4+0.6+0.7 joined)
Stay tuned ...

Forgot to add, all yarns were traded from villages.
Also all yarns used to smoke elks.

Single use, not multiples, I'll join the heavy ones and have them auto-cut again.

Getting rid off the heavy ones is easy by making bow strings and loop snares. Makes for good trade items to buy some lighter yarns  :P

JPFinn, thank you for experimenting and the results.
We're really close to get this fixed.

And it's fixed now.

Fixed - persists in 3.71.
