Title: Leather Boots can't be crafted?

My list of craftable items includes leather shoes but no leather boots. Yet I wear a pair of boots I've had from the start. Curiously, I don't see any being offered for trade since I noticed I can't craft them.

Are shoes/boots an interchangeable term? Were we ever able to craft boots?

There are numerous clothing items that can't be crafted by players, and I believe leather boots is among those. I would expect boots to offer protection further up the leg than shoes (as well as weigh more).
