Re: Are the Northern Lights visible in Finland? Yes they can appear in Finland. As usual, it's more frequent in the north than in the south.

Re: [Buoidda's mod] Obtaining blood from animals... ideas? Since all "ingredient" items are text pattern matched, you'd need to find a pattern which will fit what you are trying to get.
I remember the same issue/question coming up on Simon's Shaman mod recently.

I loaded a survivor and caught a reindeer and see why the pattern match may be an issue, the one I'm holding is named;
"largely cut small forest reindeer doe carcass (skinned)"

So I've reworked the line a bit and this code works for me and shouldn't be overly exploitable.
Code: [Select]
.Reindeer Blood. *RITUAL* /1h/ \1h\
{* reindeer * carcass *} [remove] [boil] 'Reindeer Donor'
{Knife}

The problem is that over the last couple versions of UnrealWorld these descriptors have become more detailed.

What used to be a "Dead reindeer carcass"
Has become much more difficult to pattern match. Good pattern matching makes mods less exploitable or buggy.
In this case you may need to go to something less specific like
{* carcass *}
to allow any items with carcass in the text to be used.

Not sure if that helps :/

Re: Man, I hate wolves! Smash- Cool adventure! Cool names, too! heh

Wolves scare the bejeezus out of me. I once got dragged down into a fight, as you were. Bad news! There was at least one immediately behind me that bit me once and crippled me. I had no dogs or Companions and could only just lay there, swinging fruitlessly as they kept hitting me from my blind area. It was over quickly. I never saw the one behind me.

Season's recovery greetings There went the winter solstice here in the Northern Hemisphere, and we're heading towards the increasing daylight. I've also got my fractured shoulder off the sling by now, but the recovery continues. All the movements are painful, and I'm increasing the range of motion bit by bit. The official sick leave has been extended until January 2019, and my absence from the forums continues.
But you'll be fine, and I'll be back eventually. Thanks for all the warm words and understanding and wishes.

Winter Sale is going on at Steam so once again it's good time to grab UnReal World for yourself, or gift a friend into the Far North.

And lastly, huge big seasons greetings to each and everyone of you, from the tiny dev and the winter tree. Merry whatever, fellow adventurers!

Re: Base for Rules System Yes the core of the rules is Harn, I still play it every week(tonight is Harn night!). It is funny though, to keep selling books CG  have gone through generations of Harn adding stuff etc. i think the company split a decade ago into two companies that both keep selling. But the fundamentals are identical and I think still the best.  I spotted some changes Sami made to automate it and I remember liking some of them, do not recall which they were.
Yes the silly tables in Role Master..lol
But Harn itself is not so complex, just the issue of defense not being passive and being based on skills which are based on attributes training and development(like all skills). And armour is in layers. Given those design concepts, Harn is about as simple as it can be.
I have turned some of my Harn buddies onto URW over the years, they find it to complex, lol.

Re: But that villager died
Been 3+ years here, and still no one wants to go hunting with me "until we see Tauno who went with you".   I brought Tauno's lifeless body to the village back when he met his end, so everyone definitely saw him...  Perhaps it's Driik sarcasm in action.

Driik do have a strange sense of humor

Re: No harpoons? Unique ranged hunting weapons in finnish culture?
I'm 150% sure that harpoons for whales/seals have been in use by seafaring cultures for very long. What I don't know is whether harpoons were used in Iron Age Finland.

As for Signatus' reply, you are aware that the ango doesn't come with *rope* right? How can something be a harpoon if it doesn't have rope attached?

The ango (or angon) is barbed in such away that it's really hard, if not impossible, for the victim to remove it. They'll likely just die from their wounds. We know that angos were used about a 1000 years ago in Finland, but a harpoon not so much. It's possible, but it's also something that would probably need a boat and more people, no? Can a human really reel in a huge seal on their own?

I also see a problem with programming these ropes going around the map as the creature moves... it would be cool if they could get tangled in a couple trees/rocks, but that must be hell to program correctly. I think a bolas would be easier as a way to immobilize targets.

Re: How exactly to make elk leather Word to if advise keep a close I on leather the soaking process takes days and once it is complete the hide will begin to lose quality and rot like normal. I have lost or let many hides go to harsh because I was away roaming when the de-hair process was done
