Not bugs / [Not a bug - 3.82] 10g of fat for tanning regarded as 5g
« on: December 11, 2023, 07:38:10 PM »
I cannot tan the skin that requires 10g of fat with 10g of fat. It asks for 5g more.
The trigger of this bug could be that this is a black grouse skin saved in a previous version and I'm trying to tan it with fresh hazel grouse fat. When I was tanning another hazel grouse with its own fat there were no issues. I made screenshots but when I downscale them to the 256KB limit they become unreadable.

Gameplay questions / Is there a quest to clear Njerpez invasion?
« on: February 22, 2023, 04:41:19 PM »
There is a recently spawned Njerp camp inside the Kaumo. I'm planning to clear it anyway, can nearby Kaumolais villages give me rewards for it as a quest?

Gameplay questions / IRL combat tricks implemented?
« on: February 18, 2023, 11:17:18 AM »
So my character was fighting a very tired Njerpeziläinen. Njerp kept consistently blocking my spear attacks to the body with his roundshield, so I thought I would kick him in the leg to make him lower his shield and then get a thrust to the head. I think I got a critical hit because I nailed him in the eye, knocking him unconscious and bleeding.

So is the classic high-low trick implemented in the game? Or was my Njerp just holding his shield CENTER, being unable to raise the shield to cover his head?

Off-topic / Re: 'Asentokuusi' - simple shelter under a leaning spruce tree
« on: February 17, 2023, 09:42:01 AM »
Is there any how-to video of someone making it in real life? I can't find it anywhere. Does this work in real life with pine trees? Anyways, I have never seen anyone even mention this before but seems like a very important survival skill, as it's the simplest shelter I've ever heard of.

Off-topic / Roe skull rite in Real World?
« on: February 16, 2023, 09:07:59 PM »
My first thought was "ah, that's why there are so many roes running around" then I realized it's not a bear skull and it's not UnReal World.
Looks like someone from the nearby squat village felt a little dark kvlty. Or just wanted to keep the pedestrians away. Though I think the huge amount of litter around that path is better for that purpose...

Gameplay questions / Hemp cord experiment
« on: January 08, 2023, 11:22:32 PM »
Are hemp cords implemented in UrW yet?
Today I found some dry hemp at the side of the woods so I decided to test how it works in Real World. I made this in like 10-15 minutes and it's surprisingly strong, stronger than some store-bought cords of the same thickness. Definitely enough to hang a kilogram of meat for smoking or drying, I will test with bigger weights later.
While I have done this before with other plants, I'm not an expert and hadn't made wild cords for like 7 years. So a starting character from UnReal World could probably make it too as long as they have enough herblore to identify hemp.

Stories / My dude's fellow tribesmen stole ALL THE SMOKED FOOD
« on: January 12, 2021, 11:03:22 AM »
Is this normal, or some borderline bug? I came to pick my smoked meat (about 40-50 cuts of elk) less than 2 days after it was supposed to be done.
Anyway, looks like I will have to warm up on them before I go for the Njerpezit, will killing them worsen the reputation of a nearby village? Or will it make the spiritworld angry?

Oh, it seems like stories here go deeper, not just two lines of roleplaying some game event.
Anyway, my character was born to an abusive, drunkard "gold digger", wandering around the Kaumo to get laid for ale, mead, psychedelic mushrooms, a place to stay in, and scraps of meat. He would be used to do menial tasks, and would always get into fights because all the others knew his mom would not stand up for him. One time when he asked his mom and her partner why they hate him so much, he would be knocked out and then thrown into the village's pig pen as fodder. However, he only pretended to be unconscious, so he fought the pigs off and even ate part of one. So he and his mom would be forced out of the village, but she knew a campsite to stay at. They both went to sleep. In the morning, there was not the usual yelling-with-cold-water wake-up call from his mother. He looked around, no trace of her, only her trousers, her knife, the food, the spearhead and the carving axe she had stolen. He had no name, but the moment he realized he's all alone: "I'm Rautasoturi" his thoughts whispered.

After assessing the situation, he went straight after his instincts: he tried to eat anything he could find, looking for some animals to hunt, as this was the only thing he knew. He has hunted several elks just by chasing them until they tired out. However, that meat would eventually rot on him, so he attempted look for a village to smoke the meat he couldn't trade. He had stolen meat to be smoked himself too, but he didn't think all of his meat would get stolen. But those damned villagers stole them all, and left the cordage with a noose tied on it: has he been in this village before as a kid?

This experience made him decide to build his own smokehouse, even if that means no hunting for a while. He had lots of rotten meat after all, and he found out that boiled meadsweet helps to keep some of it down. This is done now, it's time to prepare for the winter by stockpiling food and projectiles for active hunting, trading with a (suspiciously) friendly village and fighting. Maybe Rautasoturi will cross paths with some of his former abusers and can avenge everything!

Off-topic / Axes and hatchets
« on: December 21, 2019, 09:59:30 PM »
Greetings, tribesmen!

I've just bought a small carving hatchet in real life from a local blacksmith. My other axe is a Fiskars X10.
Fiskars axes are not really liked in my country as hard-core axe users don't trust the hollow plastic handle. However, I like my X10 a lot.
I thought this forum would be a good place to ask regular Fiskars (and derivatives, such as Gerber) axe/hatchet users, especially those who have used other axes too: what are YOUR experiences with them? Have you ever seen that dreaded handle break? What do you use them for?

Gameplay questions / Shields vs projectiles vs dodging
« on: December 21, 2019, 06:45:31 PM »
Greetings, tribesmen!

Do shields in the game give you extra defence against thrown weapons and arrows? If yes, are shields worth buying for this purpose?
My character has a whopping 70% dodge with around 30% shield skill. Is blocking with a shield preferable to dodging at these skill levels in melee?

Greetings, fellow tribesmen!

So I made a raft after a longish adventure to get the necessary ropes, paddled it to the other side of the rapids, and landed. I think I loaded about 3-5 tree trunks (big and slender), some stones, and a sesta on it, maybe a few more items too, but not very much. After going away a few zoomed-in tiles to gather stones, and then returning, the raft disappeared with all its load.
I did not zoom out during the stone and trunk gathering trip, but there was a loading screen, so I guess I went to another zoomed-out tile in the process. After not finding the raft, I zoomed out and walked around a little (1-2 zoomed-out tiles), and the raft did not show up on the zoomed-out map. Zoomed in again, the raft was still not on the shore. That and the raft not showing up on the zoomed-out map makes me think it despawned, not teleported.
I am pretty new to this game, this is the character I made the most progress with, so I would really like to get back my raft and its load, or at the very least the 3 ropes it required.

I see that Sami tends to inspect the related save files, so I am sending a link to them. If Sami (or maybe someone else) manages to recover my raft, as soon as I git gud at the game I will help the cause of this game by uploading a proper let's play (probably a series, where I would show in-depth hunting, combat, etc. and attempt to pronounce the Finnish words properly, as my native language is considered Finno-Ugric too) to Youtube, as most of the let's plays I have seen are either outdated, inaccurate, surface-scraping, made by very new players who do not know what they are doing, or just bad quality (for example, one let's player said "all the names are in Swedish Nordic").

The link to the compressed save folder: https://mega.nz/#!DSJkiSTZ!piiUWNAQL4uciVZT6tTptcuQ-ukf2gOYIeTLesBGVaQ
The message log entry mentioning my last raft landing is the following: (3C5A98):87ge:[:]{082304B0}      | You go on shore.
The link to the picture outlining my most probable landing location (I don't remember exacly, but I do remember approximately): https://mega.nz/#!mfA0Ba7J!azuowXMWursY1gJu4w7fZ14rHZoQ8YBniXKDZRyZvaw
Thanks in advance!
