Gameplay questions / Re: Retting and Nettle

Extracting nettle fiber by hand takes considerably more active labor, and produces approximately 90% of what retted nettles would give.

Can you confirm you tried with Ctrl+,
Not Alt or g. I’ll check myself later too.

Bug reports / Re: Dried meat in a container works as tanning material

You’d need to extract tannins with ethanol or purified water from pine bark. Where as alder, Rowan and other soft deciduous trees’ bark tends to be usable directly.

This is known glitch. You can fill birchbark container with water and it will pass as bark. Same “string match” glitch allows you to tan with pine bark.

Also dismiss companions and pen or leash animals 3 wilderness tiles away.

You might catch 2-legged prey with that, but don’t be surprised if all their metal weapons/tools sink and be gone forever.

Development News / Re: Pausable tanning and arrowmaking

Pausable crafting is amazing for modding!

Question related to the tanning change: will a rinsed skin still spoil or will Buoidda’s suggestion to remove spoilage from tanned, rinsed, yet hard skins be removed? Or will the initial softening to fur/leather remove the spoilage from skins?

Development News / Re: Hafting additions completed with shovels

Very nice!

Are other items, such as staves and clubs in the scope of next update, or will that be later release (I can see this ballooning very quick)

Can we expect wear and tear to be moddable; now/later/not?

Njerpez can spawn anywhere in the 2/3 of the eastern portion of the map.
Lands around Reemi and Kaumo get pretty decent camp spawn rate. You can also get camps spawn around Kiesse and Koivula pretty often. I rarely/never play the north east corner.

Development News / Re: Haft them axes, haft them spears

Another question: will battle axe and woodman’s axe have long haft, or will all axes take same hafts?

Will the weapon’s head quality be stored separately, retained through hafting and re-hafting? Can we examine the axe in inventory to see the quality of the head?
Or will we see “fine axe with decent head”?
If not, then there’s an “exploit” for skilled carpenter to buy decent/rough heads and re-haft with masterwork hafts.

I.e. check an axe in village, maybe it has fine or MW head on decent shaft, making the axe “fine”.

2nd question is regarding to inventory stacking: will all various combinations AND wear&tear levels be stacked separately?

Modding / Re: How to change keybinds for everything
« on: January 11, 2024, 08:06:46 AM »
I believe the keys are hardcoded.
But then, I could be wrong.

And think there’s a need to adjust the fixed level raw material limiting end product by a step. Decent should be doable to Fine by master crafter.

Couple corrections/addendum:
Foreign traders do sell Superior arrows and broadhead arrows.
MW axe is not needed to produce Perfect boards. Fine splitting axe or woodman’s axe will do.
Perfect yarn is not needed to make MW arrows, fine will do. Biggest threshold to make MW arrows are perfect boards/slat and high carpentry.
Making bow uses [noquality] on the bowstring so it doesn’t affect the output making short bows.

General Discussion / Re: Did anyone ever see a seal for once?
« on: December 20, 2023, 07:48:06 AM »
I’ve had absolutely no difference in baiting seal/bear traps. So I’m inclined to agree with Plotinus about old post.
I’ve placed traps with bait: whole fish, raw meat, modded fish bait(that’s technically a raw fish) on the shore, at location with seals, but not on their tracks... caught maybe 2-3 over several characters and years.
I’ve placed bear traps, unbaited to spots with seal tracks; and caught several.
