Just a quick note, I've stopped following this thread. More important things to-do.

@Sami, screen shot or two of your test would make it easier to get those, "yeah I like that" comments. I don't mind getting them in darker hue, but I don't mind the grayscale either.

I'll try to remember to pop'em up here at some point.

Suggestions / Re: Coudes or Coudières or Couters or Cowters?
« on: April 24, 2020, 06:49:37 PM »
Coudes and kneecops can both be consider anachronistic pieces of armors.
But we can also think maybe some foreigners had something similar in use.

Instead of being curious you may suggest something. To remove or rename?

Many of the terms could be changed, but it pays off to use something generic so that people can recognize the items.

Ok. If that’s what Wikipedia says.

Badger(mäyrä), pine-marten(näätä) have full winter hide still in the end of legal hunting season to end of March. And raccoon dog(supikoira) start to lose their winter fur around mid-April.

But doesn't this sentence also speak of rather fixed calendar dates and months rather than temperature?

Colder winters like ‘86-‘87 the furs on hare and foxes were thicker than on mild winters, say ‘99-‘00

Naturally.

But well, articles and quotes can be dropped here at will of the actual fur change mechanism.

Just today it was snowing, and the lake is still on ice, and I had to yield brown a hare on the road while driving a car. Very few spots of white were still seen.

Suggestions / Re: NPCs consuming food
« on: April 24, 2020, 06:28:48 PM »
I'm under impression all the NPCs do consume food already, and village communal food consumption should happen as well.

This hasn't been suggested before, so my conclusion is that for the vast majority of players it's not urgent at all to change it. Or actually, I'm pretty sure the most players would dearly keep it the way it has been for the past decades.

I made a little test and darkened color scheme looks pretty much ok, but if it gets featured it has to be optional and the current as default. I don't know if Terrarian has left the building already, but in general for suggestions to come alive they have to serve quite a big audience. I'll consider to have this as an option, but a few more "I'd like that as well!" comments would be good for getting started.

I'll see about this. In any case it would be better if it wasn't a fixed number but based on mushroom size and container holding capacity as you mentioned.

Suggestions / Re: Inventory interface change/tuning

Both of these could be done easily, and would really make a difference when PgUp / PgDn are not handily available.

First we gotta confirm if some players are using left and right keys mostly to scroll inventory. I guess not, but if you are, then speak up now.

After reading through these, I think fur is regulated by light levels more so than temperature,.

Thanks for digging this all up, Night. I'm especially happy that elks were mentioned.
I'm also even more convinced there's nothing to-do in regards to the suggestion.

Now we can impress our friends with our knowledge of hair.

And that's so great in developing and playing detailed heavy simulation game. We learn new things if we stay curious and pay attention.

This is fixed now and downloadable packages rebuilt.
Those who were suffering from the bug just re-download and re-install.

Fixed.

Sunlight (= calendar) is the triggering factor for fur changes for many animals. Hares and squirrels and artic foxes for example. It's far more safer for animals make these changes based on sunlight (which is a good average indication about approaching season) than to start adjusting the furs based on temperature. I don't know if eg. elks do it differently - based on temperature - but if someboby could find a scientific online arcticle about actual roles of sunlight and temperature in fur changes (of many different species) we could then see about tweaking things.

Fixed now. It's been around for all too long.

Fixed - persists in 3.62

The case to fix here was the character not falling into the water if the ice gets broken from under him after items are dropped.

The ice in question is so thin that the character would fall in there sooner or later if he just kept walking around.  Dropping items also didn't break the ice every time, as didn't
the walking, so that gave a false impression that something was wrong with the calculations. But there wasn't. There's just some fuzzy logic and margin to ice breakage to
make it more unpredictable and realistic.

Fixed - persists in 3.62.

Development News / The situation and stuff
« on: April 11, 2020, 01:13:35 PM »
These are challenging times. I hope you are doing okay and healthy.
And I believe the game may serve as a breath of fresh air during the times of isolation.
Also, it's fine to express our thoughts and feelings and experiences about the pandemic on the forums too, if you feel like it.

Finland is locked down too, but things haven't changed all that much for me or Erkka as it's remote countryside life anyway.
The virus affects the daily life nevertheless, and these days portion of my time and energy also goes to assist close elderly people who need help.

The development is being kept on, but I tend to get swamped under feedback simply because people have more time to play the game and I have less time play the developer role. ;) I maybe delayed with replies and reactions, but nevermind - still doing my best to cope with the life and the game.

There is fistful of bugs pending to be fixed, and I've started writing reply marathon to suggestions from the past six months or so. I guess it will be the first reply marathon at the new forums, but it's still several evenings away before I'm done with it. From my own endless to-do pool I've started work on improvements regarding the fire mechanics. There are many little things to adjust and add, but you'll hear more about it when it all starts to shape up.

Take care!

Since this discussion, with a new character, I have changed the way I play so that I don't pick up items until I'm ready to buy them, so I was surprised when my character Ruuri went to buy a pot in a village, picked it up, and it was not marked unpaid. I can send him if you're interested.

If it's not the case as mentioned by JP_Finn (first taken, then unpaid when NPCs see him) then send him along.
